28 Now men, Midʹi·an·ite merchants,+ went passing by. Hence they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the waterpit+ and then sold Joseph to the Ishʹma·el·ites for twenty silver pieces.+ Eventually these brought Joseph into Egypt.

21 And they began to say one to the other: “Unquestionably we are guilty with regard to our brother,+ because we saw the distress of his soul when he implored compassion on our part, but we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.”+

17 A man burdened with the bloodguilt for a soul will himself flee even to the pit.+ Let them not get hold of him.

37 Now when they heard this they were stabbed to the heart,+ and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: “Men, brothers, what shall we do?”+
