35 And she became pregnant once more and brought a son to birth and then said: “This time I shall laud Jehovah.” She therefore called his name Judah.*+ After that she left off giving birth.

12 And the sons of Judah+ were Er+ and Oʹnan+ and Sheʹlah+ and Peʹrez+ and Zeʹrah.+ However, Er and Oʹnan died in the land of Caʹnaan.+

And the sons of Peʹrez came to be Hezʹron+ and Haʹmul.+

10 The scepter* will not turn aside from Judah,+ neither the commander’s staff* from between his feet,* until Shiʹloh* comes;+ and to him the obedience of the peoples will belong.*+

3 “And those camping eastward toward the sunrising will be the [three-tribe] division of the camp of Judah in their armies, and the chieftain for the sons of Judah is Nahʹshon+ the son of Am·minʹa·dab.

2 For Judah+ himself proved to be superior among his brothers, and the one for leader was from him;+ but the right as firstborn was Joseph’s+—

14 For it is quite plain that our Lord has sprung up out of Judah,+ a tribe about which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.

5 But one of the elders says to me: “Stop weeping. Look! The Lion that is of the tribe of Judah,+ the root+ of David,+ has conquered+ so as to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
