12 Thus they abandoned Jehovah the God of their fathers who had brought them out of the land of Egypt+ and went following other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were all around them+ and they began bowing down to them, so that they offended Jehovah.+

3 And Samuel proceeded to say to all the house of Israel: “If it is with all YOUR heart YOU are returning to Jehovah,+ put away the foreign gods* from YOUR midst+ and also the Ashʹto·reth images,+ and direct YOUR heart unswervingly to Jehovah and serve him alone,+ and he will deliver YOU from the hand of the Phi·lisʹtines.”+

7 It was then that Solʹo·mon proceeded to build a high place+ to Cheʹmosh+ the disgusting+ thing of Moʹab on the mountain+ that was in front+ of Jerusalem, and to Moʹlech the disgusting thing of the sons of Amʹmon.

28 Consequently the king took counsel+ and made two golden calves+ and said to the people:* “It is too much for YOU to go up to Jerusalem. Here is your God,*+ O Israel, that brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”+

7 Further, he put the carved image+ of the sacred pole that he had made in the house+ of which Jehovah had said to David and to Solʹo·mon his son: “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I shall put my name to time indefinite.+
