5 You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them,*+ because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion,*+ bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons,* upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation,* in the case of those who hate me;+

39 As for those remaining among YOU, they will rot away+ because of their error in the lands of YOUR enemies. Yes, even because of the errors of their fathers,+ with them they will rot away.

29 May it whirl back upon the head+ of Joʹab and upon the entire house of his father, and let there not be cut off from Joʹab’s house+ a man with a running discharge+ or a leper+ or a man taking hold of the twirling spindle+ or one falling by the sword or one in need of bread!”+

21 Now there came to be a famine+ in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David proceeded to consult the face of Jehovah. Then Jehovah said: “Upon Saul and upon his house there is bloodguilt,* because he put the Gibʹe·on·ites to death.”+

32 Well, then, fill up the measure+ of YOUR forefathers.*
