31 For a voice like that of a sick woman* I have heard, the distress like that of a woman giving birth to her first child,+ the voice of the daughter of Zion who keeps gasping for breath. She keeps spreading out her palms:+ “Woe, now, to me, for my soul is tired of the killers!”+

6 Ask, please, O men, and see whether a male is giving birth. Why is it that I have seen every able-bodied man with his hands upon his loins like a female that is giving birth,+ and all faces have turned pale?+

24 Damascus has lost courage. She has turned to flee, and sheer panic has seized her.+ Distress and birth pangs themselves have taken hold of her, as with a woman that is giving birth.+
