17 At that my anger will indeed blaze against them in that day,+ and I shall certainly forsake them+ and conceal my face from them,+ and they must become something to be consumed; and many calamities and distresses must come upon them,+ and they will be bound to say in that day, ‘Is it not because our* God is not in our midst that these calamities have come upon us?’*+

6 And they were crushed to pieces, nation against nation+ and city against city, because God himself kept them in disorder with every sort of distress.+

11 When her sprigs have dried up, women coming in will break [them] off, lighting them up.+ For it is not a people of keen understanding.+ That is why its Maker will show it no mercy, and its own Former will show it no favor.+

10 But they themselves rebelled+ and made his holy spirit feel hurt.+ He now was changed into an enemy+ of theirs; he himself warred against them.+

10 For before those days there were no wages for mankind* made to exist;+ and as for the wages of domestic animals, there was no such thing;* and to the one going out and to the one coming in there was no peace because of the adversary,*+ as I kept thrusting all mankind against one another.’+
