26 So they came to John and said to him: “Rabbi, the man that was with you across the Jordan, to whom you have borne witness,+ see, this one is baptizing and all are going to him.”+

48 If we let him alone this way, they will all put faith in him,+ and the Romans+ will come and take away both our place*+ and our nation.”

28 and said: “We positively ordered+ YOU not to keep teaching upon the basis of this name, and yet, look! YOU have filled Jerusalem with YOUR teaching,+ and YOU are determined to bring the blood+ of this man upon us.”
