1 Thessalonians

1 Παῦλος Paul καὶ and Σιλουανὸς Silvanus καὶ and Τιμόθεος Timothy τῇ to the ἐκκλησίᾳ ecclesia Θεσσαλονικέων of Thessalonians ἐν in θεῷ God πατρὶ Father καὶ and κυρίῳ to Lord Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστῷ· Christ;

χάρις undeserved kindness ὑμῖν to YOU καὶ and εἰρήνη. peace.

2 Εὐχαριστοῦμεν We are giving thanks τῷ to the θεῷ God πάντοτε always περὶ about πάντων all ὑμῶν of YOU μνείαν mention ποιούμενοι making ἐπὶ upon τῶν the προσευχῶν prayers ἡμῶν, of us, 3 ἀδιαλείπτως incessantly μνημονεύοντες bearing in mind ὑμῶν of YOU τοῦ of the ἔργου work τῆς of the πίστεως faith καὶ and τοῦ of the κόπου labor τῆς of the ἀγάπης love καὶ and τῆς of the ὑπομονῆς endurance τῆς of the ἐλπίδος hope τοῦ of the κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ ἔμπροσθεν in front τοῦ of the θεοῦ God καὶ and πατρὸς Father ἡμῶν, of us, 4 εἰδότες, having known, ἀδελφοὶ brothers ἠγαπημένοι having been loved ὑπὸ by τοῦ the θεοῦ, God, τὴν the ἐκλογὴν choosing ὑμῶν, of YOU, 5 ὅτι that τὸ the εὐαγγέλιον good news ἡμῶν of us οὐκ not ἐγενήθη became εἰς into ὑμᾶς YOU ἐν in λόγῳ word μόνον only ἀλλὰ but καὶ also ἐν in δυνάμει power καὶ and ἐν in πνεύματι spirit ἁγίῳ holy καὶ and πληροφορίᾳ full assurance πολλῇ, much, καθὼς according as οἴδατε YOU have known οἷοι what sort of ones ἐγενήθημεν we became ὑμῖν to YOU δι’ through ὑμᾶς· YOU; 6 καὶ and ὑμεῖς YOU μιμηταὶ imitators ἡμῶν of us ἐγενήθητε YOU became καὶ and τοῦ of the κυρίου, Lord, δεξάμενοι having accepted τὸν the λόγον word ἐν in θλίψει tribulation πολλῇ much μετὰ with χαρᾶς joy πνεύματος of spirit ἁγίου, holy, 7 ὥστε as-and γενέσθαι to become ὑμᾶς YOU τύπον type πᾶσιν to all τοῖς the (ones) πιστεύουσιν believing ἐν in τῇ the Μακεδονίᾳ Macedonia καὶ and ἐν in τῇ the ᾿Αχαίᾳ. 8 ἀφ’ From ὑμῶν YOU γὰρ for ἐξήχηται has been sounded out ὁ the λόγος word τοῦ of the κυρίου Lord οὐ not μόνον only ἐν in τῇ the Μακεδονίᾳ Macedonia καὶ and ᾿Αχαίᾳ, Achaia, ἀλλ’ but ἐν in παντὶ every τόπῳ place ἡ the πίστις faith ὑμῶν of YOU ἡ the (one) πρὸς toward τὸν the θεὸν god ἐξελήλυθεν, has gone out, ὥστε as-and μὴ not χρείαν need ἔχειν to be having ἡμᾶς us λαλεῖν to be speaking τι· anything; 9 αὐτοὶ they γὰρ for περὶ about ἡμῶν us ἀπαγγέλλουσιν they are reporting back ὁποίαν what sort of εἴσοδον way into ἔσχομεν we had πρὸς toward ὑμᾶς, YOU, καὶ and πῶς how ἐπεστρέψατε YOU turned upon πρὸς toward τὸν the θεὸν God ἀπὸ from τῶν the εἰδώλων idols δουλεύειν to be slaving θεῷ to God ζῶντι living καὶ and ἀληθινῷ, true, 10 καὶ and ἀναμένειν to be remaining up τὸν the υἱὸν Son αὐτοῦ of him ἐκ out of τῶν the οὐρανῶν, heavens, ὃν whom ἤγειρεν he raised ἐκ out of τῶν the νεκρῶν, dead (ones), Ἰησοῦν Jesus τὸν the (one) ῥυόμενον drawing to self ἡμᾶς us ἐκ out of τῆς the ὀργῆς wrath τῆς the (one) ἐρχομένης. coming.
