“Now it came about in the days of.” Heb., wai·hiʹ bi·mehʹ. This phrase occurs six times in M; here, also in Ru 1:1; Es 1:1; Isa 7:1; Jer 1:3, and with an insert in 2Sa 21:1. It points to a period of trial ending in blessing.
