a The symbol g is used to measure acceleration forces that act on people in any kind of vehicle. The earth’s gravitational force produces a standard acceleration of 1 g. When a pilot pulls a plane out of a dive, he feels an extra force pushing him down into his seat. If this force is twice that of gravity, it is rated at 2 g’s.
