a This expression “little children” could be freely rendered “dear children” or “beloved children,” for it is the diminutive as an expression of love. Thus in the Greek tekna means “children,” but teknia means “little children” or “dear children.” It occurs nine times in the Christian Greek Scriptures and is always used in a figurative sense once by Jesus, once by Paul and seven times by John.
