In the year 1899, 14 persons in the rural town of Thun, 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of the country’s capital, Bern, reported celebrating the Memorial of Jesus Christ’s death.

In 1981 a total of 19,785 persons attended the Memorial celebration in 231 congregations here.
