    • William Whiston was a scientist, mathematician, clergyman, prolific writer, and colleague of English physicist and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton. In the year 1702, Whiston succeeded Newton as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, England.

      • William Whiston (1667-1752) belonged to Sir Isaac Newton’s circle of acquaintances. Whiston and Newton shared many religious beliefs.

      • For a time, Newton generously supported Whiston in his career. Later, however, Newton ostracized him.
