Since it seemed impossible to print publications in every language, the brothers later concentrated their efforts on the two trade languages​—Hiri Motu and Tok Pisin.

Tok Pisin​—a blend of English, German, Kuanua, and other languages—​is widely spoken in the highlands, coastal regions, and islands in northern Papua New Guinea.
