One mama and im pikin for convention, them de look Volume 2 of the book “Questions Young People Ask—Answers That Work.”

Christians today de gain from the spiritual food wey we de get from Governing Body and the people wey them send

JAMES—“THE BROTHER OF THE LORD”

Na James wey be Joseph and Mary son them first mention among Jesus younger half brothers. (Matt. 13:54, 55) E fit be say na im be Mary second pikin. James and Jesus grow up together, e see Jesus when e de preach, and e know say Jesus “do miracle,” but we no know if e see Jesus when e de do any of the miracles. But when Jesus dey earth, James and im brothers “no put faith for” Jesus, wey be their senior brother. (John 7:5) James fit don even agree with some of Jesus family members wey talk say: “E don de craze.”—Mark 3:21.

James de read from scroll.

But things change after Jesus die and come back to life. Inside the Greek Scriptures, e get three other people wey their name be James but e clear say na this James wey be Jesus half brother, na im Jesus appear to after e come back to life and appear to im disciples for 40 days. (1 Cor. 15:7) This one fit don help James understand say, im senior brother na the Messiah. Whether na this one help-am or na another thing, e no reach ten days after Jesus die when James, im mama, and im brothers gather for one room for up to pray.—Acts 1:13, 14.

James come be person wey people for the congregation for Jerusalem respect well-well. Them even de call-am “person wey them send go.” or apostle, for that congregation. (Gal. 1:18, 19) E clear say James na important member of the congregation because, after angel free Peter from prison, Peter tell the disciples say: “Make una tell James and the brothers this things.” (Acts 12:12, 17) E be like say when them de talk about circumcision matter for Jerusalem, na James be chairman of the meeting. (Acts 15:6-21) Apostle Paul talk say James, Cephas (Peter) and John be people wey “be like say them be pillars for congregation” for Jerusalem. (Gal. 2:9) Some years after this time, Paul travel go different places as missionary for the third time. When e come back, e go meet James and tell-am things wey happen for the travel and “all the elders dey there.”—Acts 21:17-19.

E clear say na this James wey Paul call “the brother of the Lord” na im write the letter, or Bible book of James. (Gal. 1:19) For that letter, James carry body down as e no call imself apostle or talk say e be Jesus brother, but e call imself “slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Jas. 1:1) James letter show say just like Jesus, e be person wey de like to study things wey Jehovah make and the way people de behave. James use things wey people know like breeze, sea, sky, sun, flowers, fire, and animals take do example and explain things wey dey Bible. (Jas. 1:6, 11, 17; 3:5, 7) God give James sense to understand the way people de think and behave, and the things wey e write about fit help us live well with other people.—Jas. 1:19, 20; 3:2, 8-18.

Wetin Paul talk for 1 Corinthians 9:5 show say James fit don marry. Bible no talk about when James die or how e die. But Josephus wey be Jew and wey de write history talk say small time after Governor Porcius Festus wey de rule Rome die, around 62 C.E., and before Albinus wey rule after-am become governor, Ananus (Ananias) wey be high priest ‘do meeting with the judges of the Sanhedrin and bring one man wey im name na James, the brother of Jesus wey them de call the Christ, and e still bring other people too come the Sanhedrin.’ Josephus talk say Ananus ‘accuse them say them don sin against the law and e give order say make them stone them.’
