Acts (The Things the Apostle Dem Do)
1 The·oph′i·lus, in the first book, I write about all the thing dem Jesus use to do and teach 2 until the day God carry him to heaven. Before he went to heaven, he use holy spirit to give direction to the apostle dem he choose. 3 After he suffer, he appear to them plenty time so da they can know for true-true da he na come back to life. They saw him for 40 days, and he wor talking about God Kingdom. 4 When he meet with them, he tell them say: “Yor mon not leave Jerusalem, but yor mon continue to wait for the thing the Father promise, the thing da I tell yor about. 5 John baptize people with water, but I will soon baptize yor with holy spirit.”
6 So when they came together, they ask him: “Lord, you coming bring the kingdom back to Israel now-now?” 7 He tell them say: “Yor not need to know the time or the season because only the Father get the power to decide. 8 But yor will get power when the holy spirit come on yor, and yor will preach about me in Jerusalem, all over Ju·de′a and Sa·mar′i·a, and all over the world.” 9 After he finish saying this thing dem, when they wor still looking at him, God carry him up in the sky and the cloud cover him and they wor not able to see him again. 10 When he wor going up in the sky and they wor still looking, right away two men dem who wor wearing white clothes stand side them 11 and they say: “People from Gal′i·lee, why yor standing and looking in the sky? This Jesus who wor with yor and who God carry up in the sky will come back the same way how yor see him going up in the sky.”
12 Then they went back to Jerusalem from one mountain they call the Mount of Olives. It wor about one kilometer from Jerusalem.* 13 When they reach there, they went upstair to the room where they wor eh. Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bar·thol′o·mew, Matthew, Al·phae′us son James, Simon the one who get zeal, and James son Judas. All of them wor together. 14 They and some women dem, Jesus ma Mary and his brother dem wor having the same thinking and they continue to pray every day.
15 Da time around 120 people wor there. Then Peter stand up among them and say: 16 “My brothers, the holy spirit make David to talk about what Judas wor coming do. And it wor important for this thing dem to happen, and da Judas who help the people dem to arrest Jesus. 17 And he wor part of us and they choose him to join us for this work. 18 (He buy land with the money he got from the wicked thing he do, and he fall down on his head,* and his stomach burst and everything inside it come outside. 19 Everybody in Jerusalem got to know about it. So they call da land in their language A·kel′da·ma, it mean, “Land of Blood.”) 20 They write it in Psalms. It say, ‘Let the place he living turn empty, and nobody mon live there’ and, ‘Let different person take his position.’ 21 So it important for us to choose one of the men dem who been with us all the time the Lord Jesus wor doing his work among us. 22 This person mon be somebody who wor with us from the time John baptize Jesus until God carry Jesus to heaven. And he mon be somebody who saw Jesus when he came back to life.”
23 So the brother dem talk about two persons. They talk about Joseph who they can call Bar′sab·bas, and who they can also call Justus, and Mat·thi′as. 24 Then they pray and say: “O Jehovah,* da you know what in everybody heart. Show us which one of the two men dem you choose 25 to do the holy work and be apostle, and take Judas place because he leave his position to do his own thing.” 26 So they throw something da looking like dice* to know which one of them God na choose, and He choose Mat·thi′as, so they add him to the 11 apostles.
