Old People Really important in the Congregation
“One 83-year-old woman name Connie say: “When I wor young, I wor able to do plenty things. But now-now because of old age, I not able to do the thing dem I use to do before.”
Maybe you too not able to do plenty thing dem like before. Even though you na remain faithful to Jehovah for plenty years, if you not careful, you will start comparing the thing dem you doing now-now with the thing dem you use to do for Jehovah before. Like da, it will make you to feel discourage. So wetin will help you to be happy?
WETIN JEHOVAH WANT YOU TO DO?
Ask yourself, ‘Wetin Jehovah want me to do?’ You can find the answer in Deuteronomy 6:5. It say: “You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength.”
This Bible verse show da Jehovah want for you to give him your best. Knowing this one can help you to not compare yourself with other people or to not compare what you use to do when you wor young with what you able to do now-now.
Think about this one: When you wor young, wetin you use to give to Jehovah? Plenty of Jehovah people will say da they use to give him their best. For you, da wor your best your situation allow you to do da time. What you able to give to Jehovah now-now? You can give anything your situation can allow you to do today, and da the best you able to give to Jehovah. If you think about it like da, you will know da you still giving Jehovah your best the same way you give him your best when you wor young.
You give Jehovah your best when you wor young and you still giving him your best in your old age
OTHER PEOPLE CAN BENEFIT FROM YOU
Instead of only thinking about what you not able to do again, think about what you able to do now-now to help other people. Now da you old, you able to do some thing dem da you wor not able to do the time you wor young. For example, you can do some of this thing dem here:
Share your experience with other people. Think about what this Bible verse dem say:
King David: “I was once young and now I am old, but I have not seen anyone righteous abandoned, nor his children looking for bread.”—Ps. 37:25.
Joshua: “Now look! I am about to die, and you well know with all your heart and with all your soul that not one word out of all the good promises that Jehovah your God has spoken to you has failed. They have all come true for you. Not one word of them has failed.”—Josh. 23:14.
David and Joshua stay long serving Jehovah and they pass through plenty things in life. So the thing dem they say wor able to touch people heart because da just what they pass through.
If you na stay long in the truth, you too can talk about some blessing dem you na get from serving Jehovah. For example, you can remember any interesting story about how Jehovah bless his people da really touch your heart? Then feel free to tell other people about it! When you share your experience with your brother and sister dem, it will really encourage them and you will be happy too.—Rom. 1:11, 12.
Another way you can encourage other people da to go to meeting in person if your situation can allow it. When you do it, you will encourage the brother and sister dem and they will encourage you too. Connie who we talk about before say: “When I go for meeting to the Kingdom hall, the brother and sister dem can really show me love. And this one can help me to not be discourage. I can even try to give other people small-small gift to show da I really grateful. And I can also try my best to go to meeting, go field service and do other things to encourage my brother and sister dem.”
JEHOVAH VALUE ALL THE THING DEM YOU CAN DO FOR HIM
The Bible get plenty example about people who wor not able to do things for Jehovah the way they use to do it before. But Jehovah still use to love them. Think about Simeon, one old Israelite man who wor living the time Jesus wor born. When he use to go to the temple, maybe he use to see young men dem doing important work there. But what about Simeon hisself? Maybe he use to feel da he not important because he wor not able to serve Jehovah again the way this young men dem wor doing. But Jehovah not see it like da. He see Simeon to be “righteous and faithful.” And Jehovah bless him by allowing him to see Jesus baby. Jehovah even make Simeon to prophesy da Jesus wor coming be the Messiah! (Luke 2:25-35) So it clear da Jehovah not look at Simeon physical strength, but he see him to be man da wor having strong faith and who “holy spirit wor guiding.”
Jehovah bless Simeon by allowing him to see Jesus baby and he even make Simeon to prophesy da Jesus wor coming be the Messiah!
If you not able to do the thing dem you use to do before, know da Jehovah value all the thing dem you can do for him. Jehovah can accept sacrifice “if somebody willing to give from their heart … and da because God expect the person to give what he able to give and not what he not able to give.”—2 Cor. 8:12.
So focus on what you able to do. For example, think about different way dem you can preach even if da just for short-short time. You can also encourage other people by calling dem or sending dem text message. When you do small-small thing dem to show da you really love people, it can encourage dem especially when it come from somebody like you, who na stay long serving Jehovah.
Even though you not able to move your body like before, you can still give Jehovah your best. See one experience from East Africa in the box “One Sister Use the Bible to Save Somebody Life.”
Remember da the way you na stay long serving Jehovah and you continue to be faithful to him can really encourage other people. You na set good example in enduring. So you can be sure da “God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed for his name by ministering and continuing to minister to the holy ones.”—Heb. 6:10.
CONTINUE HELPING OTHER PEOPLE
Some report say older men and women dem who can help other people can be alright in their body, they can think good-good and they can live long.
But doing good thing for people will not stop all the problem dem old age can bring. Da only God Kingdom able to do it, because it will move sin da can make us to get old and die.—Rom. 5:12.
But now-now, if you continue to do what Jehovah want you to do, like helping other people to know him, it will make your hope strong. And it will help you to be alright in your body. Older people, yor please remember da Jehovah value all the thing dem yor can do for him. And the brother and sister dem in the congregation also value yor good example.
