Questions From Readers
In Psalm 61:8 the psalmist David said that he was going to praise God name “forever.” You think he was saying that he was never going to die?
No. But what David wrote was true.
Let talk about what he wrote in this Bible verse and other Bible verse them that talk about the same thing. He said: “I will sing praises to your name forever as I pay my vows day after day.” “I praise you, O Jehovah my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify your name forever.” “I will praise your name forever and ever.”—Ps. 61:8; 86:12; 145:1, 2.
David was not making things big, thinking that he will never die. He knew that Jehovah said human being will die because of sin, and David self agree that he was sinner. (Gen. 3:3, 17-19; Ps. 51:4, 5) He also knew that faithful men them like, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob die. And David knew that he was going to die one day. (Ps. 37:25; 39:4) But what he wrote in Psalm 61:8 show that he really wanted to praise God forever, that mean, for all the days he will live for.—2 Sam. 7:12.
According to the superscriptions of Psalms 18, 51, and 52, David use to write about his own life story sometime. In Psalm 23, David describe Jehovah to be like shepherd who can take care of his servants and guide them. David was that kind na shepherd. And he wanted to serve God ‘all the days of his life.’—Ps. 23:6.
Remember that Jehovah told David to write all the thing them he wrote. He also wrote about things that was going to happen later in the future. For example, in Psalm 110, David wrote about how his Lord will “sit at [God’s] right hand” in heaven and receive great power. To do what? To defeat God enemies and “execute judgment against the nations” on earth. The Messiah came from David family line. And he will rule from heaven and will be “priest forever.” (Ps. 110:1-6) Jesus self said that the prophecy in Psalm 110 was talking about him and he said it will be fulfill in the future.—Matt. 22:41-45.
Yes, Jehovah told David to write about thing them that happen when he was living. Jehovah also told him to write about the future when he will be resurrected to enjoy praising Him forever. So Psalm 37:10, 11, 29 was fulfill the time they wrote it and it will also be fulfill in the future. The things the Bible verse them say, happen in Israel and it will happen all over the world when God fulfill his promises.—See paragraph 8 in the article “You Will Be With Me in Paradise” in this Watchtower.
So Psalm 61:8 and other Bible verse them like it show that David wanted to praise Jehovah in Israel until he die. And they also show what David will be able to do in the future when Jehovah bring him back to life.
