36 Je·hoiʹa·kim+ was 25 years old when he became king, and he reigned for 11 years in Jerusalem.+ His mother’s name was Ze·biʹdah the daughter of Pe·daiʹah from Ruʹmah. 37 He continued to do what was bad in Jehovah’s eyes,+ according to all that his forefathers had done.+

8 “‘But concerning the bad figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten,+ this is what Jehovah says: “So I will regard King Zed·e·kiʹah+ of Judah, his princes, the remnant of Jerusalem who are left in this land, and those who are dwelling in the land of Egypt.+

37 And King Zed·e·kiʹah+ the son of Jo·siʹah began to reign in place of Co·niʹah*+ the son of Je·hoiʹa·kim, for King Neb·u·chad·nezʹzar* of Babylon made him king in the land of Judah.+ 2 But he and his servants and the people of the land did not listen to the words of Jehovah spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.

5 King Zed·e·kiʹah replied: “Look! He is in your hands, for the king cannot do anything to stop you.”

6 So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Mal·chiʹjah the son of the king, which was in the Courtyard of the Guard.+ They let Jeremiah down by ropes. Now there was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah began to sink down into the mud.

25 “But your day has come, O fatally wounded, wicked chieftain of Israel,+ the time of your final punishment.
