CHAPTER 31

The Disciples Pluck Wheat On Sabbath Day

MATTHEW 12:1-8 MARK 2:23-28 LUKE 6:1-5

  • DISCIPLES PLUCK WHEAT ON SABBATH DAY

  • JESUS NA THE “LORD OF THE SABBATH”

Jesus and im disciples travel go up, go the north side of Galilee. Harvest season don reach, and wheat dey the farm wey dem dey pass. As dem dey go, the disciples come start to pluck wheat chop because dem dey hungry. But that day na Sabbath, and the Pharisees see dem.

Remember sey, e never too tey wey some Jews for Jerusalem be want kill Jesus because dem talk sey e no dey respect their Sabbath. Now the Pharisees carry the same talk come meet Jesus about the disciples, dem sey: “See! Your disciples dey do wetin the Sabbath law sey make we no do.”—Matthew 12:2.

The Pharisees dey claim sey to pluck wheat, rub am for hand and chop, mean sey the disciples dey harvest. (Exodus 34:21) The way dem take explain wetin work be for Sabbath, come make Sabbath hard for people. But the Sabbath suppose be happy day, wey go help person near God more. Jesus use example show sey the way dem dey explain the Sabbath law no correct, and no be so Jehovah want am.

One example wey Jesus give na about David and im soldiers. When dem dey hungry, dem enter the tabernacle, come chop the bread wey the priest don carry comot from Jehovah front. When priest comot bread like that and take new one replace am, na only priest suppose chop am. But upon all this one, because of condition wey David and im men dey for that time, God no do dem anything.—Leviticus 24:5-9; 1 Samuel 21:1-6.

Jesus give another example, e sey: “Una never read am for the Law sey, on Sabbath day the priests wey dey temple dey break Sabbath Law, and no be bad thing?” Wetin e mean be sey, even for Sabbath day, priests dey kill animal for sacrifice and do other work for the temple. So Jesus come tell dem sey, “But I dey tell una sey something wey pass the temple dey here.”—Matthew 12:5, 6; Numbers 28:9.

To make the matter clear, Jesus quote from God Word. E tell dem sey: “If to sey una understand wetin e mean, sey: ‘I want mercy no be sacrifice,’ una for no dey condemn people wey no do bad.” To end the matter, Jesus sey: “Because, na the Son of man be the Lord of the Sabbath.” For this place, Jesus dey talk about the peace wey go dey when e go rule for one thousand years.—Matthew 12:7, 8; Hosea 6:6.

E don tey since human being eye dey see pepper for Satan hand, as katakata and war dey increase. But things go different well well when Jesus Christ go rule for one thousand years. Na that time we go get the rest of mind wey all of us dey wait for and wey we need!
