MARRIAGE na normal thing for life. But how e start and why e dey? The answer go help us see marriage as God dey see am and help us enjoy the blessing wey dey marriage pass as we dey enjoy am now. After God make the first man, Adam, e carry the animal dem go meet am, make Adam give dem name. But ‘the man no get person wey go help am to make am complete.’ God come make Adam sleep deep sleep, e comot one of im rib, use am make woman, and e carry am give the man. (Read Genesis 2:20-24.) So, we fit talk sey na Jehovah start marriage.

² Jesus gree with wetin Jehovah talk, when e sey: ‘Man go leave im papa and mama and e go dey with im wife, and two of dem go be one flesh.’ (Matt. 19:4, 5) As God use Adam rib make the first woman, e go don help dem know sey two of dem na one. (Gen. 3:16) Bible talk sey make husband dey treat their wife with love. And wife go respect their husband as head. (Eph. 5:33) If husband and wife wey dey serve Jehovah dey do things together, problem no go too dey the marriage. And dem fit even stop anything wey fit cause problem.

MARRIAGE—FROM ADAM TIME GO REACH NOAH TIME

8. From Adam time go reach Noah time, how marriage be?

⁸ Before Adam and Eve die because of wetin dem do, dem don already get plenty pikin. (Gen. 5:4) Cain, wey be their first pikin, marry one of im family person. Lamech, wey come from Cain family, na the first person wey Bible sey get two wife. (Gen. 4:17, 19) From Adam time go reach Noah time, people wey serve Jehovah no plenty. So, dem come dey take any one wey dem choose as their wife.’ The women come born giant because e no normal for angel to marry human being. Apart from that one, ‘the bad things wey people dey do for the world’ come too much and na only bad things ‘dey their mind every time.’—Gen. 6:1-5.

9. Wetin Jehovah do the bad people for Noah time? And wetin this one teach us?

⁹ Jehovah use the heavy rain wey fall for Noah time take kill all the bad people. That time, one thing wey dey their mind pass na to marry. Dem no put ear for wetin Noah dey tell dem, even though Bible sey Noah na person ‘wey dey preach about wetin good.’ (2 Pet. 2:5) Jesus talk sey our time go be like Noah time. (Read Matthew 24:37-39.) Today, we dey preach the good news for everywhere before the world go end. But many people no dey want hear. Wetin this one teach us? MARRIAGE—FROM NOAH TIME GO REACH JESUS TIME

11. How the Law wey Jehovah give Israel people that time take protect dem?

NO LEAVE YOUR HUSBAND OR WIFE

¹² For prophet Malachi time, many husband for Israel dey let small small thing make dem end their marriage. Dem go pursue their wife so that dem fit marry young women or even women wey no dey serve Jehovah. Even the time wey Jesus dey this world, dem still dey end their marriage ‘because of anything wey their wife do.’ (Matt. 19:3) Jehovah hate this thing wey dem dey do.—Read Malachi 2:13-16.

¹³ Today, Jehovah people no dey let this kind thing happen for congregation. But what if person wey don marry and wey don baptize run comot with another person husband or wife, come marry this person after e don end im first marriage? If the person wey do this bad thing no change, dem go disfellowship am so that congregation go still clean for God eye. (1 Cor. 5:11-13) This person must ‘show sey e don repent’ before congregation go gree make e come back. MARRIAGE FOR OUR TIME

14. Wetin the Law do for Israel people?

¹⁴ E pass 1,500 years wey Jehovah use the Law take direct Israel people. The Law help dem to dey handle family matter and other things the way Jehovah want. And na the Law still direct dem go reach when Messiah come. (Gal. 3:23, 24) The Law end the time wey Jesus die and God come start one new arrangement. (Heb. 8:6) This new arrangement no allow dem do some of the things wey dem dey do when the Law still dey.

15. (a) For our time how God want make marriage be? (b) Wetin person wey dey serve Jehovah go get for mind before e end im marriage?

¹⁵ When Jesus dey answer some Pharisee people wey ask am question, e tell dem sey because Moses allow dem to end their marriage, no mean sey na ‘so e be from beginning.’ (Matt. 19:6-8) So wetin Jesus talk show sey wetin God get for mind about marriage na one man and one woman. (1 Tim. 3:2, 12) Because dem be ‘one flesh,’ people wey don marry no suppose leave each other. Dem suppose allow their love for God and theirself make their marriage strong. If dem go collect paper to end the marriage when e be sey their husband or wife no go sleep with another person, dem no get right to marry another person. (Matt. 19:9) But person fit forgive im husband or wife wey sleep with another person, the way Hosea take forgive im wife, Gomer, wey dey follow man. Na so Jehovah still do for Israel people. E forgive dem even though sey dem go serve another god, like woman wey leave im husband follow another man. (Hos. 3:1-5) Make we still get am for mind sey, if person know sey im husband or wife sleep with another person and e come start to sleep again with that im husband or wife, that one mean sey e don forgive am. After this one, Bible no support make e end the marriage.

16. Wetin Jesus talk about person wey never marry?

¹⁶ After Jesus talk about wetin fit end marriage, e come talk about people wey never marry, ‘wey get the gift’ to dey like that. E still talk sey: ‘Make the person wey fit make space for am, make space for am.’ (Matt. 19:10-12) Many people don choose sey dem no go marry so that dem fit put all their mind for Jehovah work. We suppose praise dem for this thing wey dem do.

17. Wetin fit help person choose whether e go marry or e go dey like that?

¹⁷ Na person go choose whether e go marry or e no go marry. Na im know whether e get the gift wey Jesus talk about. Apostle Paul talk sey e good if person sey e no go marry; but, e come talk sey: ‘Because people dey do sex wey no clean for God eye anyhow-anyhow, make man get im own wife and make woman get im own husband.’ E still sey: ‘But if dem no fit control theirself, make dem marry, because e go better if dem marry instead of their body to dey hot for sex.’ Marriage fit help person comot hand for things wey no clean for God eye like to rub im private part (masturbation) or to dey play love with person wey no be im husband or wife. E still good make people wey want marry ask theirself whether dem don reach to marry because of wetin apostle Paul talk. E sey: ‘If anybody think sey the way e dey behave as e never marry no good, and if e don pass the age wey im body dey push am for sex, then make this one be wetin go happen: Make e do wetin e want; e no sin. Make dem marry.’ (1 Cor. 7:2, 9, 36; 1 Tim. 4:1-3) But this one no mean sey person go just marry because of the way body dey do am when e young.
