BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | MARK 15-16

“Wetin Prophets Talk About Jesus Happen”

(Mark 15:3-5) But the chief priest them, talk say Jesus do plenty bad things. 4 So Pilate ask Jesus again say: “You no go answer? See the plenty things wey them de talk against you.” 5 But Jesus no gree answer, and this one make Pilate surprise.

(Mark 15:24) And they nail Jesus for stake, divide the cloth wey e wear ontop and they play gamble to know who go take which part.

(Mark 15:29, 30) And people wey de pass start de laugh Jesus, de shake their head and talk say: “Eheh! You wey talk say you go scatter the temple and use three days build-am back, 30 save yourself. Come down from the stake!”

nwtsty study note for Mr 15:24, 29

divide the cloth wey e wear ontop: Joh 19:23, 24, talk other things wey Matthew, Mark, and Luke, no talk about. The Roman soldiers divide the cloth wey Jesus wear ontop into four part. One part for one soldier. But they no gree divide the cloth wey Jesus wear inside. They play gamble to know who go take that one. E clear say they play gamble so that they fit take the cloth wey Jesus wear ontop and the one wey e wear inside. Wetin the soldiers do, match wetin Bible talk for Ps 22:18. That time, before soldiers kill person, they go first seize the person cloth and everything wey e get. This one de really make shame catch the person.

de shake their head: The thing be say, when people shake head like this, e mean say them de laugh person. The people wey de pass, do wetin Bible talk for Ps 22:7.

(Mark 15:43) Joseph of Arimathea come the place. Na person wey dey high position for the Council, and e too de wait for the Kingdom of God. E no fear, e go ask Pilate for Jesus body.

(Mark 15:46) After e buy fine cloth and carry Jesus body down, e use the fine cloth wrap the body and put-am for one grave wey they build inside rock; then e push one stone take cover the mouth of the grave.

nwtsty study note for Mr 15:43

Joseph: The four people wey write the Gospel, talk different-different things about Joseph. For example, Matthew wey be Tax collector before, talk say Joseph na rich man. The main people wey Mark write for na Rome people. E talk say Joseph na “person wey dey high position for the Council.” Luke na doctor wey de feel for people. E talk say Joseph na good and righteous man. E still talk say Joseph no support the Council when them de plan against Jesus. Na only John write say Joseph na secret disciple because e de fear the Jews.—Mt 27:57-60; Mr 15:43-46; Lu 23:50-53; Joh 19:38-42.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Mark 15:25) Now, e don reach the third hour, and they nail Jesus for the stake.

nwtsty study note for Mr 15:25

the third hour: This one na around 9 0’clock for morning. Some people talk say the time for Mr 15:25 no match with the one for Joh 19:14-16. Because Joh 19:14-16 talk say na around the sixth hour wey Pilate give Jesus to people wey go kill-am. Even though Bible no really explain why the time different, make we talk why the time fit dey different: The four Gospel book talk about things wey happen the day wey Jesus die, and the time wey they write agree. For example, the four book talk say na for morning time, the priests and the elders take Jesus go meet Pontius Pilate, wey be Governor for Rome. (Mt 27:1, 2; Mr 15:1; Lu 22:66–23:1; Joh 18:28) Matthew, Mark, and Luke write say when they nail Jesus for the stake, darkness cover the whole land from the sixth hour go reach the ninth hour. (Mt 27:45, 46; Mr 15:33, 34; Lu 23:44) One thing wey fit make the time different na say: Some people de count the time wey they start de beat Jesus as part of the time wey they take kill Jesus. Sometimes they go beat person sotey e die. They beat Jesus sotey e no fit carry the stake again, na another person carry-am. (Lu 23:26; Joh 19:17) If the beating wey they give Jesus na the beginning of when they kill-am, small time go don pass before they nail Jesus for the stake. Mt 27:26 and Mr 15:15 support wetin we just talk because they mention the time wey they start de beat Jesus and when they nail Jesus. So, the time wey each person go talk, na the time wey e feel say they start de kill Jesus. E fit be say na this one make Pilate surprise as Jesus die quick, after they nail-am for the stake. (Mr 15:44) Another thing be say, people wey write Bible de always divide the whole day and the whole night into four part. That one mean say na three-three hour people for Bible time de divide time. Na e make for Bible you go see third hour, sixth hour, and ninth hour. Them de count this time from 6 0’clock for morning. (Mt 20:1-5; Joh 4:6; Ac 2:15; 3:1; 10:3, 9, 30) And that time, plenty people no get watch or clock wey go show them the correct time. So, them de always use “around,” as e dey for Joh 19:14. (Mt 27:46; Lu 23:44; Joh 4:6; Ac 10:3, 9) From wetin we don talk, e fit be say Mark add the time wey they start de beat Jesus and when they nail Jesus for the stake. But John only talk about when they nail Jesus for stake. Mark and John fit don push the time go the three-hour wey near pass. And John use “around” when e talk the time. E fit be say na this things make the time for the two Bible verse different. John write the book of John, plenty years after Mark write the book of Mark. And because the time for the two book different, this one show say John no copy wetin Mark write.

(Mark 16:8) So as they come out, they run comot from the grave because fear really catch them. And they no talk with anybody, because them de fear.

nwtsty study note for Mr 16:8

because them de fear: The first-first document wey they write about the book of Mark, show say na this sentence: “Because them de fear;” end the book of Mark. And say the book end for verse 8. Some people talk say no be wetin dey the original copy, because e too short. But as Mark na person wey de write simple and short sentence, their talk no get weight. Jerome and Eusebius wey live for fourth-century write say, the original document about book of Mark, end with “because them de fear.”

Some Greek document and translation for other language, add other verse after verse 8. One na long ending and the other na short ending. Codex Alexandrinus, Codex Ephraemi Syri rescriptus, and Codex Bezae Cantabrigiensis, add 12 verse after verse 8. Na for fifth century C.E, they write this three book. This 12 verse still dey the Latin Vulgate, the Curetonian Syriac, and the Syriac Peshitta. But they no add-am for Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus, two Greek book wey they write for fourth-century. And they no still add-am for Codex Sinaiticus Syriacus wey they write for fourth or fifth century, or even for the first-first Sahidic Coptic document about book of Mark wey they write for fifth century. The oldest document about book of Mark for Armenia and Georgia language still end for verse 8.

Some document and translation for other language wey they write after this time, get the short ending. For this one, the sentence wey they add no plenty. The Codex Regius wey they write for eighth century C.E, get the short and long ending (Short conclusion and long conclusion). But na the short one them first write. But for the beginning of the book, they explain say some people dey use this two ending, but that one no mean say them gree say this two ending correct.

SHORT ENDING

The short ending after Mr 16:8, no be part of the Bible, because e no join for the part wey God holy spirit direct people to write. The place talk say:

They tell the people around Peter, all the things wey they command them. And after all this things, Jesus send them make they go preach from east to west about the holy news wey nothing fit spoil, wey go give them everlasting life.

LONG ENDING

The long ending after Mr 16:8, no be part of the Bible, because e no join for the part wey God holy spirit direct people to write. The place talk say:

9 After Jesus resurrect for the first day of the week, e first appear to Mary Magʹda·lene, the person wey e drive seven demons comot from e body. 10 Mary Magʹda·lene run go tell the people wey de follow Jesus, as them de cry. 11 But when they hear say Jesus don resurrect, and say Mary Magʹda·lene don see Jesus, they no believe. 12 After all this things, e appear like another person to two of them wey de waka go inside village, 13 and they come back, and tell the rest. They no still believe. 14 But after, Jesus come appear to the eleven when them sitdown round table de chop, e quarrel with them because they no believe when the other people tell them say e don resurrect. 15 And e tell them say: “Make wuna go the whole world, go preach about the good news to all people. 16 Anybody wey believe and baptize, go save. But person wey no believe, go die. 17 Another thing be say, this sign go de follow anybody wey believe: With my name, they go drive demons, they go speak in tongue, 18 and they go use their hand pick snake from ground, and even if they drink poison, they no go die. They go put their hand ontop sick people, and they go well.”

19 So, after, the Lord Jesus don talk with them finish, e go heaven and e sitdown for the right hand of God. 20 So, they do wetin e tell them, they go preach for everywhere. And the Lord support them and make them do many miracle as them de preach.

BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | LUKE 1

“Put Body Down Like Mary”

(Luke 1:38) Then Mary talk say: “See! I be slave girl for Jehovah! Make the thing wey you don talk happen to me as you talk-am.” After that one, the angel comot from there.

ia 149 ¶12

“See! I Be Slave Girl for Jehovah!”

12 People wey their faith strong still de remember wetin Mary talk wey show say e de put body down, and e de obey God. E tell angel Gabriel say: “See! I be slave girl for Jehovah! Make the thing wey you don talk happen to me as you talk-am.” (Luke 1:38) Slave girl na servant wey e position really low; the slave life dey for e oga hand. Na like that Mary feel about Jehovah. E know say e life dey for Jehovah hand. And say Jehovah no de leave e people. Mary still dey sure say, e go get blessing from Jehovah if e do this big work.—Ps. 18:25.

(Luke 1:46-55) And Mary talk say: “I de use all my life praise you, Jehovah. 47 And my joy no go stop because God na my Savior, 48 because e don remember e poor slave girl. See! From now all generation go de call me, person wey God don bless, 49 because the God wey get power don do big things for me, and e name dey holy, 50 and from generation to generation, anybody wey de fear God, God go show-am mercy. 51 E don do big things with e hand; e don scatter proud people and their bad plan. 52 E don push strong people comot for throne, and e don carry poor people up; 53 e don give hungry people good things make them chop belleful and e don drive rich people comot with empty hand. 54 God don help Israel e servant, as God remember e mercy, 55 just as e be tell our forefathers, Abraham and e pikin them, forever.”

ia 150-151 ¶15-16

“See! I Be Slave Girl for Jehovah!”

15 Mary still talk. And wetin e talk dey inside Bible. (Read Luke 1:46-55.) Na this one long pass for all the things wey Mary talk for Bible. And we fit learn plenty things about Mary from this one: (1) Mary really like this work, (2) e see this work as blessing from Jehovah, (3) e thank Jehovah for the big honor, (4) Mary really get strong faith because e talk say Jehovah de comot strong people wey dey proud and Jehovah de help e people, and (5) Mary really sabi Jehovah. One time wey they calculate-am, e pass 20 place for Hebrew Scriptures wey Mary quote from!

16 E clear say, Mary really think deep about God Word. But e still put body down, e no talk from the things wey e know instead, e quote from God Word. The pikin wey still dey e belle that time copy e example, because when the pikin don grow, e talk say: “The things wey I de teach no be my own, but na the person wey send me, get-am.’ (John 7:16) Make we ask ourself: ‘I de respect Bible and follow wetin e talk? Or na my own thing I de like teach?’ Wetin Mary do show the kind person wey e be.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Luke 1:69) And e don raise one horn wey de save and na from the family of e servant, David.

nwtsty study note for Lu 1:69

one horn wey de save: Or “one savior wey e get power well-well.” For Bible, animal horn de normally show say person or country get power, don win or take over another country. (1Sa 2:1; Ps 75:4, 5, 10; 148:14; ftns.) They still de use horn describe kings and family wey dey rule, whether na righteous person, or wicked person. And anytime they win war or take over other country, they go talk say they use horn win. (De 33:17; Da 7:24; 8:2-10, 20-24) For this verse, “one horn wey de save” na the Messiah, the person wey get power to save. Na e be mighty savior.

(Luke 1:76) But as for you, pikin, they go call you prophet of the Most High, because you de go for front, for Jehovah and prepare e way,

nwtsty study note for Lu 1:76

you de go for front, for Jehovah: John the Baptist go “de go for front, for Jehovah.” This one mean say e go prepare people for Jesus, wey de represent e Father, Jehovah.—Joh 5:43; 8:29; check the study note about Jehovah for this verse.

BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | LUKE 2-3

“Young People, Wuna De Serve Jehovah Well as Wuna De Grow?”

(Luke 2:41, 42) Now, every year e papa and mama de always go Jerusalem for the Passover celebration. 42 And when e dey 12 years, all of them go Jerusalem for the festival as them de always do.

nwtsty study note for Lu 2:41

e papa and mama de always: Mary de always follow Joseph go Jerusalem for the Passover celebration, even though the Law no talk say women must join for the celebration. (Ex 23:17; 34:23) If person want go Jerusalem and come back, na about 300 km (190 mi) and na every year them de go with their family.

(Luke 2:46, 47) So after three days, them see Jesus for temple. E sitdown with the teachers, de listen to them and de ask them questions. 47 And all the people wey de hear wetin e de talk de always surprise for the way e de understand and de answer question.

nwtsty study note for Lu 2:46, 47

de ask them questions: As the people de surprise as Jesus de ask them question, e show say the kind question wey Jesus de ask no be like small pikin wey just want know. (Lu 2:47) For some sentence, the Greek word wey they translate as “de ask . . . questions,” describe wetin de happen for court wey people de ask question and others de answer with question. (Mt 27:11; Mr 14:60, 61; 15:2, 4; Ac 5:27) Some people wey de study history talk say na normal thing for big leader them for religion de remain for the temple and teach people for one big space wey dey there. So people fit sitdown near them, de listen to them and de ask question.

de always surprise: For this verse, the Greek word wey they translate as “de surprise,” fit mean to de always surprise or continue to surprise.

(Luke 2:51, 52) E follow them go back to Naz′a·reth and e continue de obey them. E mama sofri keep all the thing for e heart. 52 And Jesus continue de get sense, and e de strong as e de grow and de get favor from God and people.

nwtsty study note for Lu 2:51, 52

continue de obey: Or “continue de do things wey they tell-am; no stop to obey.” The Greek word wey they use for this verse show say, after all the question wey Jesus ask the teacher for temple wey surprise them and show say e really sabi God Word, Jesus follow e papa and mama go house. E continue de obey them. As Jesus obey, e no be just like other children. E use-am do the things wey dey the Law of Moses.—Ex 20:12; Ga 4:4.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Luke 2:14) “Make the God wey dey heaven get the glory, and for this earth, make people wey get God favor, get peace.”

nwtsty study note for Lu 2:14

and for this earth, make people wey get God favor, get peace: For some old Bible document they write say “and make peace dey this earth, and God favor to people.” And na so e dey for some Bible translations. But the one wey New World Translation use na from other old Bible document wey we trust pass. The thing wey the angel talk no mean say God go favor all people no matter how they live their life. But e de talk about people wey go get God favor because they get real faith and follow e Son, Jesus.—Check study note about people wey get God favor, for this verse.

people wey get God favor: As the angel say “favor” for this verse, e no de talk about favor from people, but e de talk about favor from God. The Greek word eu·do·kiʹa fit still mean “favor; enjoyment; to agree.” Another Greek word wey resemble this one na eu·do·keʹo. Na this word Jehovah use the time wey Jesus baptize, as e dey for Mt 3:17; Mr 1:11; and Lu 3:22 (check study note for Mt 3:17; Mr 1:11). The main meaning for the word na, “to show say person agree with something; for person to de glad with something; to value something; and to really like something.” So as they say “people wey get God favor” (an·throʹpois eu·do·kiʹas), e mean people wey God really like; e fit still mean “people wey de make God glad; and wey God agree with.” The thing wey the angel talk for this verse mean favor from God, no be for all human being, but for people wey go get God favor because they get real faith and follow e Son, Jesus. But some sentence talk about favor from human being. (Ro 10:1; Php 1:15) And them de normally use-am with favor from God, or to talk about the thing wey God want. (Mt 11:26; Lu 10:21; Eph 1:5, 9; Php 2:13; 2Th 1:11). Inside the Septuagint they use “favor” from God for Ps 51:18 [50:20, LXX].

(Luke 3:23) The time Jesus start e preaching work, e dey around 30 years. As people think, e na Joseph pikin, wey be He′li pikin,

wp16.3 9 ¶1-3

You Know?

Na Who Be Joseph Papa?

Na Joseph wey be carpenter of Nazareth, take care of Jesus as e pikin even though no be e born Jesus. But na who be Joseph papa? When Matthew write about the family wey Jesus come from, e talk about one man wey e name na Jacob, and Luke write say Joseph na “Heli pikin.” Why they no be the same?—Luke 3:23; Matthew 1:16.

Matthew write say: “Jacob come be papa to Joseph.” The Greek word wey Matthew e use for this verse show clear say Jacob na Joseph e real papa. Matthew de talk about the real family wey Joseph come from, wey be King David family. Na this family make Jesus get the right to be king as person wey come from King David family.

But Luke write say: “Joseph . . . wey be He′li pikin.” For Greek language, the word wey they use for this verse mean “son-in-law of.” This kind one still dey for Luke 3:27. For there, even though Shealtiel real papa na Jeconiah, they add e name for Neri sons. (1 Chronicles 3:17; Matthew 1:12) E be like say Shealtiel marry Neri pikin, so e come be Neri son-in-law. Na so e be too for Joseph, e na Heli pikin because e marry Mary wey be Heli pikin. So Luke de talk about Jesus from Mary family side, as na Mary born Jesus. (Romans 1:3) So Bible de talk about two family wey Jesus come from. This one really dey important and useful to help people know the family wey Jesus come from.

BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | LUKE 4-5

“Fight Temptation Like Jesus”

(Luke 4:1-4) Then, Jesus comot from Jordan, when holy spirit full e body, and the spirit direct Jesus go wilderness 2 for 40 days. For there the Devil tempt Jesus. E no chop any food all that time. So when the days end, e start de hungry. 3 So Devil tell Jesus say: “If you be God Son, tell this stone make e turn to bread.” 4 But Jesus answer Satan say: “They don write-am say, no be only bread man need for life.’”

w13 8/15 25 ¶8

Which Kind Person You Suppose Be?

8 Na the same method Satan use when e want tempt Jesus for wilderness. After Jesus fast for 40 days and 40 night, e start de hungry. Then Satan try use food tempt Jesus. Satan tell Jesus say: “If you be God Son, tell this stone make e turn to bread.” (Luke 4:1-3) Jesus get two things wey e fit do: (1) E fit choose say e want use e power give e self food; (2) E fit still decide say e no go use e power for that kind way. Jesus know say if e use e power for that kind way, e go mean say Jesus de think about only e self. Even though Jesus de hungry, e friendship with Jehovah dey important pass food. So Jesus tell Satan say: “They don write-am say, ‘No be only bread man need for life.’”—Luke 4:4, ftn.

(Luke 4:5-8) So e take Jesus go up and e show Jesus all the kingdom for the whole world one time. 6 and the Devil tell Jesus say: “I go give you all this power and their glory, because they don give me, and I go give anybody wey I want. 7 So if you just worship me, all go be your own. 8 Then Jesus answer Satan say: “They don write-am say, ‘Na only Jehovah your God you must worship, and na e alone you must serve.’”

w13 8/15 25 ¶10

Which Kind Person You Suppose Be?

10 Wetin Satan do when e want tempt Jesus? “E show Jesus all the kingdom for the whole world one time; and the Devil tell Jesus say: I go give you all this power and their glory.’” (Luke 4:5, 6) E no dey possible make Jesus use ordinary eye see all the kingdom for the whole world one time. E fit be say Satan use vision show Jesus all the kingdom so that e fit attract Jesus. Then, Satan tell Jesus: “So if you just worship me, all go be you own.” (Luke 4:7) Jesus no want be the kind person Satan want make e be. Jesus no waste time, e tell Satan: “They don write-am say, ‘Na only Jehovah your God you must worship, and na e alone you must serve.’”—Luke 4:8.

(Luke 4:9-12) Then Satan lead Jesus go Jerusalem, and e put Jesus ontop the temple and tell Jesus say: “If you be God Son, jump from here, 10 because they write-am say, ‘E go give e angels command about you so that they go save you, 11 and ‘they go use their hand carry you so that your leg no go hit stone.’” 12 So Jesus tell Satan: “They write-am say, ‘Make you no ever test Jehovah your God.’”

Ontop the Temple

E fit be say Satan put Jesus ontop the temple, (the part wey high pass) and e tell Jesus say make e jump from there. As the verse say “the temple,” we fit no know the place wey Jesus stand for ontop the temple. E fit be say Jesus stand for the southeastern part of the temple. Or for another corner for the temple. If anybody fall from there, the person must die. Na only Jehovah fit save the person.

w13 8/15 26 ¶12

Which Kind Person You Suppose Be?

12 Jesus no be like Eve. E show say e really dey humble. This na fine example! Even when Satan use different way test Jesus, e no fall. Jesus no gree do something wey fit tempt Jehovah. If Jesus be do-am, e for mean say Jesus dey proud. But Jesus give clear and straight answer, e say: “They write-am say, ‘Make you no ever test Jehovah your God.’”—Read Luke 4:9-12.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Luke 4:17) So they give Jesus the scroll of prophet Isaiah, then e see the place wey they write say:

nwtsty study note for Lu 4:17

the scroll of prophet Isaiah: The scroll of prophet Isaiah wey them de call the Dead Sea Scroll get 17 paper (parchment strips) wey they join together. This one make the scroll long reach 7.3 m (24 ft), and e get 54 columns. E fit be say na the same length be the scroll wey them de use for the synagogue for Nazareth. For first century the scroll no de get chapter and verse, so Jesus need to find the place wey e want read. As Jesus see the place, e show say e de always read God Word.

(Luke 4:25) For example, I de tell wuna truth say: For the time of Elijah, plenty widow dey Israel when rain no fall for three years and six months, and hunger come dey everywhere.

nwtsty study note for Lu 4:25

for three years and six months: For 1Ki 18:1, Elijah talk say rain go fall for the third year. Because of this, some people talk say the thing wey Jesus talk no match with the thing wey Elijah talk for 1 Kings. But the Hebrew Scripture no talk say the dry season no last reach three years. As Bible say for the third year, e mean from the first time wey Elijah go tell Ahab about the dry season. (1Ki 17:1) E fit be say the dry season don dey for six month before Elijah meet Ahab. Even for this time, the dry season don even too long. Another thing be say, rain no fall immediately after Elijah meet Ahab for the third year. But na after the fire test for Mount Carmel. (1Ki 18:18-45) So the thing wey Jesus talk for this verse and the one wey James e half-brother talk for Jas 5:17, match with the one wey dey 1Ki 18:1.
