16 In the 17th year of Peʹkah the son of Rem·a·liʹah, Aʹhaz+ the son of King Joʹtham of Judah became king.

3 Instead, he walked in the way of the kings of Israel,+ and he even made his own son pass through the fire,+ following the detestable practices of the nations+ that Jehovah had driven out from before the Israelites.

28 Aʹhaz+ was 20 years old when he became king, and he reigned for 16 years in Jerusalem. He did not do what was right in Jehovah’s eyes as David his forefather had done.+

3 Moreover, he made sacrificial smoke in the Valley of the Son of Hinʹnom* and burned up his sons in the fire,+ following the detestable practices of the nations+ that Jehovah had driven out from before the Israelites.

35 Furthermore, they built the high places of Baʹal in the Valley of the Son of Hinʹnom,*+ in order to make their sons and their daughters pass through the fire to Moʹlech,+ something that I had not commanded them+ and that had never come into my heart* to do such a detestable thing, causing Judah to sin.’
