11 So the Israelites did what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah and served* the Baʹals.+ 12 Thus they abandoned Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt.+ And they followed other gods, the gods of the peoples who were all around them,+ and they bowed down to them and offended Jehovah.+

12 They continued to serve disgusting idols,*+ about which Jehovah had told them: “You must not do this!”+
