The First of Kings
13 Jehovah command one man of God from Judah to come Beth′el, that time, Jer·o·bo′am stand near the altar to make sacrifice smoke. 2 The man talk wetin Jehovah don command-am to talk against the altar say: “O altar, altar! This na wetin Jehovah talk: ‘See! Them go born one son wey im name na Jo·si′ah for the family* of David! E go sacrifice the priests of the high place* them ontop you, the people wey de make sacrifice smoke ontop you, and e go burn people bones ontop you.’” 3 E give one sign that day say: “This na the sign wey Jehovah don talk: See! The altar go divide into two and the ashes* wey dey ontop-am go troway.”
4 As King Jer·o·bo′am just hear the word wey the man of the true God don talk against the altar for Beth′el, e stretch im hand from the altar and talk say: “Catch-am!” Quick-quick, the hand wey e stretch just dry,* and e no fit bring-am down. 5 Then the altar divide into two and the ashes wey dey ontop-am troway according to the sign wey the man of the true God be don give, just as Jehovah don command-am.
6 The king come tell the man of the true God say: “Abeg, beg Jehovah your God make e pity me,* and pray for me say make my hand dey as e be before.” So the man of the true God beg Jehovah to pity the king, the king hand come dey as e dey before. 7 The king come tell the man of the true God say: “Follow me come house, make you fit chop and make I fit give you gift.” 8 But the man of the true God tell the king say: “Even if you give me half of your house, I no go follow you and I no go chop bread or drink water for this place. 9 Because Jehovah don command me say: ‘Make you no ever chop bread or drink water, and make you no ever pass the same road wey you pass come when you de go back.’” 10 So e follow another road go back, and e no follow the same road wey e pass when e de come Beth′el.
11 E get one old prophet wey de live for Beth′el, and im sons come back for house and tell-am everything wey the man of the true God don do for Beth′el that day and the things wey e tell the king. After them don tell their papa wetin happen, 12 their papa ask them say: “Which road e pass when e de go?” So im sons show-am the road wey the man of the true God wey come from Judah pass. 13 E come tell im sons say: “Ready the donkey for me.” Them ready the donkey for-am and e climb-am.
14 E follow the man of the true God and see-am for where e sitdown under one big tree. Then e ask-am say: “Na you be the man of the true God wey come from Judah?” The man answer-am say: “Na me.” 15 Then e tell-am say: “Follow me come house make you chop bread.” 16 But e talk say: “I no fit follow you go back or do this thing wey you talk, and I no go chop bread or drink water with you for this place. 17 Because Jehovah don command me say, ‘Make you no ever chop bread or drink water for there. Make you no ever pass the same road wey you pass come when you de go back.’” 18 So e tell-am say: “I be prophet like you, and Jehovah command one angel to tell me say, ‘Tell-am say make e follow you come back to your house, so that e go fit chop bread and drink water.’” (E deceive-am). 19 So e follow-am go back and e chop bread and drink water for im house.
20 As them sitdown for table de chop, the prophet wey bring-am come back hear the word of Jehovah, 21 and e call the man of the true God wey come from Judah and tell-am say, “This na wetin Jehovah talk: ‘Because you no obey the law of Jehovah and you no do as Jehovah don command you, 22 but you go back go chop bread and drink water for the place wey God tell you say, “Make you no chop bread or drink water,” your dead body no go enter the place wey them bury your papa-papa them.’”
23 After the man of the true God don chop bread and drink finish, the old prophet ready the donkey for the prophet wey e bring come back. 24 Then e enter road to continue im journey. But one lion meet-am for road and kill-am. Im dead body dey for the road and the donkey stand near-am. The lion too stand near the dead body. 25 Some men be de pass and them see the dead body wey dey for the road, and the lion wey stand near the dead body. Them enter the city wey the old prophet de live and talk wetin happen.
26 When the prophet wey bring-am come back from the road hear wetin happen, quick-quick e talk say: “Na the man of the true God wey no obey the law of Jehovah, so Jehovah make lion attack-am, to wound-am and kill-am just as Jehovah don tell-am.” 27 E come tell im sons say: “Make una ready the donkey for me.” So them ready-am. 28 Then e enter road and see the dead body wey dey for the road, with the donkey and the lion wey stand near-am. The lion no chop the dead body and e no wound the donkey. 29 The prophet carry the dead body of the man of the true God and put-am ontop the donkey, then e carry-am come back to im own city to mourn-am and bury-am. 30 So e put the dead body inside the grave wey e don make, and them continue to cry for-am, de talk say: “My brother, this one really bad!” 31 After e don bury-am, e tell im sons say: “When I die, una must bury me for the same place wey I bury the man of the true God. Put my bones near im bones. 32 The word of Jehovah wey e talk against the altar for Beth′el and against all the different-different house of worship wey dey the high place them for the cities of Sa·mar′i·a go surely happen.”
33 Even after this things happen, Jer·o·bo′am no stop to do bad, but e continue to choose priests among Israel people for the high place* them. Na anybody wey want be priest e de choose as priest, and e de talk say: “Make e become one of the priests of the high place them.” 34 Na this sin wey the family of Jer·o·bo′am commit, make God destroy them and wipe them comot from the earth.
