The First Book of Samuel
21 After, David come Nob to meet A·him′e·lech the priest. When A·him′e·lech see David, e start to shake because e de fear. E come ask David say: “Why e be say na only you come, and nobody come with you?” 2 David come answer A·him′e·lech the priest say: “The king tell me say make I do something, but e talk say, ‘No let anybody know anything about this thing wey I send you make you go do, and about the things wey I don tell you.’ I arrange with my young men say make we meet for one place. 3 Now if you get five loaves of bread, just carry them give me, or anything wey dey.” 4 But the priest answer David say: “I no get ordinary bread, but holy bread dey. The young men fit chop-am if them don separate theirself from women.”* 5 Then David answer the priest say: “The truth be say, we don separate ourself from women as we don do for those times wey I go war. If the body of the young men dey holy when we go ordinary work, no be today them suppose holy pass?” 6 So the priest give-am the holy bread, because no other bread be dey there apart from the showbread wey them comot for Jehovah front, so that them go use fresh one replace-am for the day wey them comot-am.
7 That day, one of the servants of Saul be dey there, wey them no allow make e comot from Jehovah front. Im name na Do′eg, and na E′dom person. Na im be the chief of the shepherds wey de work for Saul.
8 Then David ask A·him′e·lech say: “You get any spear or sword for here? I no carry my sword or the things wey I de use fight because the king want make I do wetin e send me quick-quick.” 9 So the priest talk say: “The sword of Go·li′ath, the Phi·lisʹti·a man wey you kill for the Lowland* of E′lah dey here. Them use cloth wrap-am, and e dey the back of the eph′od.* If you want carry-am, carry-am, because na only-am dey here.” David come talk say: “No sword be like-am. Carry-am give me.”
10 That day, David comot from there and continue to run from Saul. Last-last, e come run go meet A′chish wey be king of Gath. 11 The servants of A′chish tell-am say: “No be David wey be the king of the land be this? No be because of-am them de dance, de sing say,
‘Saul don kill one-one thousand people,
But David don kill ten-ten thousand people’?”
12 David put this things wey them talk for mind, e come de fear well-well because of A′chish wey be king of Gath. 13 So for their front, e come do like say im head no correct again, and de behave like mad person when e dey with them.* E de put marks for the doors of the gates and de let spit comot from im mouth de fall for im beard-beard. 14 At last, A′chish come tell im servants say: “Una no see say this man de craze? Why una carry-am come give me? 15 The mad people wey dey this side no reach, na im make una still carry this one wey de craze come meet me? Make I allow this man enter my house?”
