Who or Wetin Be “the Alpha and the Omega”?
How Bible answer?
Na Jehovah wey be the Almighty God be “the Alpha and the Omega.” This title dey for three place for Bible.—Revelation 1:8; 21:6; 22:13.a
Why God call imself “the Alpha and the Omega”?
Alpha na the first letter and omega na the last letter for Greek alphabet. And na Greek language them use write the part of Bible wey them de call New Testament, and na this part of Bible the book of Revelation dey. Because say them be the first and last letter for Greek alphabet, Bible use-am show say na only Jehovah be the beginning and the end. (Revelation 21:6) Even before anything come life, Jehovah don be the Almighty God, and e go continue to be Almighty God forever. Na im be the only Person wey dey “from everlasting go reach everlasting.”—Psalm 90:2.
Na who be “the first and the last”?
Bible de use this title for Jehovah and im Son Jesus, but for different ways. See two example.
For Isaiah 44:6, Jehovah talk say: “Na me be the first and na me be the last. No other God dey apart from me.” For this verse, Jehovah talk say na im be the only true God forever, and no other God dey apart from-am. (Deuteronomy 4:35, 39) So for this place, na the same meaning the word “the first and the last” and “the Alpha and the Omega,” get.
Another thing be say, “the First [pro’tos] and the Last [e’skha·tos]” wey them use for Revelation 1:17, 18 and 2:8, no mean alpha and omega. The things wey them write around this verses show say the person wey this place de talk about die but God bring-am back to life. So this verses no de talk about God because God never die before. (Habakkuk 1:12) But we know say Jesus die, and God bring-am back to life. (Acts 3:13-15) Na im be the first person wey God bring back to life go heaven as spirit person wey no fit die. Now e de live “forever and ever” for there. (Revelation 1:18; Colossians 1:18) And na Jesus de bring any other person wey die back to life. (John 6:40, 44) So na im be the last person wey Jehovah bring back to life by imself. (Acts 10:40) So because of this one, e correct to call Jesus “the First and the Last.”
Revelation 22:13 de show say na Jesus be “the Alpha and the Omega”?
No. Na different-different people talk for Revelation chapter 22, and Bible no tell us the particular person wey talk for verse 13. One professor wey im name na William Barclay write about this part of Revelation, e talk say: “The way them write this part of Revelation, them no arrange-am the way them take happen; . . . so this one de make-am hard for person to know who de really talk.” (The Revelation of John, Volume 2, Revised Edition, page 223) So, “the Alpha and the Omega” for Revelation 22:13, na the same Person wey get the title for other parts for Revelation, and the Person na Jehovah God!
a The fourth place wey e dey na Revelation 1:11, but na for King James Version. E no dey for other Bible translation for this our time, because e no dey for the copy of Greek Bible wey old pass, but na people later add-am join.
