“E Go Be Priest Like Melchizedek, and E Go Be Priest Forever”

(Hebrews 7:1, 2) This Mel·chizʹe·dek, na king of Saʹlem, and priest of the Most High God. E meet Abraham as Abraham de come back from where e go kill the kings, and e bless him. ² And Abraham give Mel·chizʹe·dek the tenth part of everything. Melchizedek

Melchizedek na king for one olden days city wey the name na Salem and na “priest of the Most High God,” Jehovah. (Ge 14:18, 22) Na the first priest wey Bible talk about. And e don be priest before the year 1933 B.C.E. Salem mean “Peace.” So as Melchizedek na king of Salem, apostle Paul call him “King of Peace.” And because of the meaning of e name, apostle Paul still call him “Righteous King.” (Heb 7:1, 2) People believe say they form the city of Jerusalem from the olden days city of Salem. And Salem na part of the name, Jerusalem. And sometimes, them de call Jerusalem, “Salem.”—Ps 76:2.

After Abram (Abraham) don win Chedorlaomer and the other kings, e meet Melchizedek for the Low Plain of Shaveh or “the Low Plain of the king.” For there, Melchizedek bring bread and wine and e bless Abraham. E talk say: “Make the Most High God wey e make heaven and earth bless you; and make the Most High God receive all the praise because e help you win all your enemy!” Then Abraham give Melchizedek, wey be king and priest, the “tenth part of everything” wey e get from the war wey e win against e enemy them.—Ge 14:17-20; Heb 7:4.

Melchizedek

Why Bible talk say Melchizedek no get “when e life start and when e end”?

Paul talk special thing about Melchizedek, e talk say: “E no get papa and mama, family wey e come from, when e life start and when e end. But as e dey like the Son of God, na priest forever.” (Heb 7:3) They born Melchizedek just like any other person and e still die. But Bible no talk the name of e papa and mama. E no talk about e family history, or whether e get pikin them. And Bible no still talk about when they born him and when e die. So na only Melchizedek fit really represent Jesus Christ wey e be priest forever. As they no write anybody wey e be priest before and after Melchizedek, na so e still be with Jesus Christ. Before Jesus Christ become high priest, no high priest dey like Jesus. And Bible show say nobody go take over from him. Another thing na say, even though Jesus na from the tribe of Judah and the family of David, e no be priest because of the family wey e come from. Melchizedek

Example of the Kind Priest Wey Jesus Christ Go Be. Jehovah use David write one important promise wey e make to the Messiah. E talk say: “You go be priest like Melchizedek, and you go be priest forever!” (Ps 110:1, 4) This thing wey Jehovah use David write give the Hebrew Christians reason to believe say the Messiah go be king and priest at the same time. Sacrifice Wey E Make God Happy

For the first five books of the Bible, especially for Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers, they talk about the things wey person fit use for the different type of sacrifice and offering. Even though e fit hard us to know and remember everything about the sacrifice and offering, e good make we know some important things about this different kind of sacrifice.

Covenant

When we fit talk say the Law covenant “old”?

Forgiveness

For the law wey Jehovah give the people of Israel, if person sin against God or man and e want make they forgive e sin, e must do two things. (1) E must confess and (2) most times, e go use blood of animal do sacrifice. (Le 5:5–6:7) Na e make Paul talk say: “True-true, from wetin the Law talk, na blood them de use clean almost everything, and without blood God no go forgive people their sin.” (Heb 9:22) But the truth na say, blood of animals no fit remove sin and give person complete clean conscience. Because of this covenant and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Jehovah fit forgive and forget any sin wey person do. (Hebrews 9:24-26) Because Christ no enter inside holy place wey they make with hand, wey e be the copy of the real one. “Continue De Follow Me”

⁴ Bible no talk anything about the things wey happen when Jesus reach heaven, how they welcome him and how e and e Father happy as they meet again. But long time before this things happen, Bible talk wetin go happen small time after Jesus go back to heaven. For more than 1500 years, the people of Israel de always do one holy ceremony. One day for every year, the high priest go enter inside the Most Holy of the temple. E go sprinkle the blood wey they use for all the sacrifice for the Atonement Day, for front of the ark of the covenant. For that day, the high priest de represent the Messiah. To Dey Perfect

The Law of Moses Dey Perfect. For the Law wey Jehovah use Moses give people of Israel, e show say they go get priest, and they go de do different-different animal sacrifice. Just as apostle Paul talk, even though the Law, the arrangement of priest and the different-different sacrifice come from God and dey perfect, they no fit make people wey them dey under the Law, perfect. (Heb 7:11, 19; 10:1) Instead make the Law free people from sin and death, e de make-am clear say the people na sinners. (Ro 3:20; 7:7-13) But all this things wey God don arrange do the work wey God want make they do. For example, the Law be like guide wey e lead people to Christ. So the Law form the perfect shadow of the “good things wey de come.” (Ga 3:19-25; Heb 10:1) So, wetin apostle Paul mean when e talk say “the Law no fit free people, because their sin dey make the Law weak”? (Ro 8:3) For Hebrews 7:11, 18-28, Bible show say no high priest (person wey the Law appoint to de do sacrifice and wey de enter the Most Holy with the blood of animal wey they sacrifice for the Atonement Day) go fit really save the people wey e de do sacrifice for. Even though the sacrifice wey the priest de do de help the people continue to worship God, this one no mean say they don clean finish from their sin. Question Wey Some People Don Ask

Paul talk say for the covenant or agreement between God and people to work, person must die. The Law covenant na one example. Na Moses Jehovah use give the people of Israel the Law. So na Moses be the middle man between Jehovah and people of Israel. Moses really do important work. Na Moses Jehovah use form the covenant with the people of Israel. So we fit see Moses as the person wey e make the Law covenant wey e come from Jehovah, work. But Moses no need to die so that e blood go make the Law covenant work. Instead na the blood of animals wey they sacrifice replace the blood of Moses.—Hebrews 9:18-22.

What of the new covenant between Jehovah and the Israel of God? Na Jesus Christ be the middle man between Jehovah and the Israel of God. Even though this covenant come from Jehovah, na Jesus make-am work. Jesus no only be the middle man for the new covenant, but when e de this earth, e work with the first people wey they enter the new covenant. (Luke 22:20, 28, 29) And na Jesus be the right person wey e suppose do the sacrifice wey go make the covenant work. This sacrifice no be animal sacrifice, but na sacrifice wey they go do with the life of perfect person. Paul describe Jesus Christ as the person wey de make the new covenant work. After Christ . . . enter heaven, e stand for the front of God for us, na that time the new covenant start to work.—Hebrews 9:12-14, 24.

When Paul talk about Moses and Jesus as the people wey make covenant work, e no de talk say the two covenant come from them, but na from God. But na the two of them God use as middle men for the two covenant. And for the two covenant to work, person go need to die—they use blood of animal replace blood of Moses, and Jesus sacrifice e own life for the people wey dey the new covenant.

(Hebrews 10:5-7) So when e come this world, e tell God say: “‘You no want sacrifice and offering, but you prepare body for me. ⁶ You show say you no want burnt offering and sin offering.’ ⁷ Then I talk say: ‘See! I don come (for inside scroll they write about me) to do wetin you want, O God.’”

Baptism

(Hebrews 11:6) Another thing na say if person no get faith e no fit make God happy, because anybody wey e want worship God must believe say God dey, and say na God de bless people wey them de use all their heart find him.

Jehovah De Bless People Wey They Use All Their Heart Find Him

How we fit make Jehovah happy? Paul write say: “If person no get faith e no fit make God happy.” For here, Paul no talk say if person no get faith e go hard for the person to make God happy. But e talk say if person no get faith, e no fit make Jehovah happy. So e mean say faith really dey important if person want make Jehovah happy.

So which kind faith de make Jehovah happy? Our faith must get two things. One, we “must believe say God dey.” Other Bible translate-am as “believe say God dey real” and “believe say God de exist.” So if we de doubt say God dey, we go fit make him happy? But real faith pass to believe say God dey, because even demons believe say God dey. (James 2:19) If we get faith say God dey, e go make us live the kind life wey God like.—James 2:20, 26.

Two, we “must believe say” na “God de bless people” wey de worship him well. Person wey e get real faith go really dey sure say all the thing wey e de do to live clean life, no be for nothing. (1 Corinthians 15:58) If we de doubt say God fit or say e want bless us, we go fit make him happy? (James 1:17; 1 Peter 5:7) Anybody wey e think say God no de care, or say e no de show say e like the things wey we de do, or say e get tight-hand, no know the true God.

Which kind people Jehovah de bless? Paul talk say na ‘people wey them de use all their heart find him.’ One book wey Bible translators de use, talk say the Greek word wey they translate as ‘to use all your heart find,’ no mean say you go ‘comot go find-am,’ but e mean to worship God. Another book talk say this Greek word fit mean the kind power wey person de put to find God. True-true, Jehovah de bless people wey their faith de move them to worship him with all their heart and power.—Matthew 22:37.

(Hebrews 11:33-38) Because of their faith, they win kingdoms, do the correct thing, get wetin God promise them, close the mouth of lions, ³⁴ heat from fire no affect them, run comot make they no kill them with sword, get power when them dey weak, dey strong to fight war, drive army wey e come fight them. ³⁵ Women receive their people wey don die through resurrection. Get Strong Faith for Wetin You Hope For

(Hebrews 11:5) Because Enoch get faith, God transfer him so that e no go see death, and e no dey anywhere because God transfer him, but before God transfer Enoch, God make Enoch know say e really do wetin e like.

“When Jehovah Correct Person, Na Sign of Love”

(Heb. 12:5) Whether we ‘think say the correction no dey important’ that time wey they give us the correction, or we take-am then after we reject-am, na the same thing. We no allow the correction help us and make us better people. But e go really fine if we follow this advice from Solomon wey talk say: ‘Take correction and make you no leave-am. “Anytime Wey You De Pray, Make You Say, ‘Father’”

“Listen to Correction and You Go Get Sense”

¹⁸ Na true say when they correct person, e de pain. But if person no take the correction, na the bad result wey e go get because e no take correction, de pain pass. (Heb. 12:11) Make we talk about the example of Cain and King Zedekiah. When Cain de think how e go kill Abel because e hate Abel, God warn Cain say: “Why you de over vex, and why you no dey happy? (Hebrews 12:1) So, since we get this plenty group of people wey they surround us like big cloud, and wey de talk about things wey they don see and hear, make we too troway all the load and the sin wey de quick slow us down, and make we endure as we de run the race wey we de run.

Endure as You De Run the Race

¹¹ Paul talk say we get “plenty group of people wey they surround us like big cloud.” All this people don die, but they run the race for life well and they run-am go reach the end. Their example fit encourage we wey we still de run this race for life. We fit compare them with some people wey come stadium to watch other people wey de run. But because they sabi run and they don run their own go reach the end, they go de encourage the new people wey just start to run. How you think say person wey de run go feel when e know say some of the people wey they surround him, or de watch the race, na people wey they really sabi run?
