To the Ephesians

2 καὶ And ὑμᾶς YOU ὄντας being νεκροὺς dead (ones) τοῖς to the παραπτώμασιν falls beside καὶ and ταῖς to the ἁμαρτίαις sins ὑμῶν, of YOU, 2 ἐν in αἷς which ποτὲ sometime περιεπατήσατε YOU walked κατὰ according to τὸν the αἰῶνα age τοῦ of the κόσμου world τούτου, this, κατὰ according to τὸν the ἄρχοντα ruler τῆς of the ἐξουσίας authority τοῦ of the ἀέρος, air, τοῦ of the πνεύματος spirit τοῦ the νῦν now ἐνεργοῦντος operating within ἐν in τοῖς the υἱοῖς sons τῆς of the ἀπειθίας· disobedience; 3 ἐν in οἷς whom καὶ also ἡμεῖς we πάντες all ἀνεστράφημέν were turned up ποτε sometime ἐν in ταῖς the ἐπιθυμίαις desires τῆς of the σαρκὸς flesh ἡμῶν, of us, ποιοῦντες doing τὰ the θελήματα wills τῆς of the σαρκὸς flesh καὶ and τῶν of the διανοιῶν, mental perceptions, καὶ and ἤμεθα we were τέκνα children φύσει to nature ὀργῆς of wrath ὡς as καὶ also οἱ the λοιποί·— leftover (ones);— 4 ὁ the δὲ but θεὸς God πλούσιος rich ὢν being ἐν in ἐλέει, mercy, διὰ through τὴν the πολλὴν much ἀγάπην love αὐτοῦ of him ἣν which ἠγάπησεν he loved ἡμᾶς, us, 5 καὶ and ὄντας being ἡμᾶς us νεκροὺς dead (ones) τοῖς in the παραπτώμασιν falls beside συνεζωοποίησεν he made alive with τῷ to the χριστῷ,— Christ,— χάριτί to undeserved kindness ἐστε YOU are σεσωσμένοι,— having been saved,— 6 καὶ and συνήγειρεν he raised up together καὶ and συνεκάθισεν he seated together ἐν in τοῖς the ἐπουρανίοις heavenly [places] ἐν in Χριστῷ Christ Ἰησοῦ, Jesus, 7 ἵνα in order that ἐνδείξηται he might show within ἐν in τοῖς the αἰῶσιν ages τοῖς the (ones) ἐπερχομένοις coming upon τὸ the ὑπερβάλλον surpassing πλοῦτος riches τῆς of the χάριτος undeserved kindness αὐτοῦ of him ἐν in χρηστότητι kindness ἐφ’ upon ἡμᾶς us ἐν in Χριστῷ Christ Ἰησοῦ. 8 τῇ To the γὰρ for χάριτί undeserved kindness ἐστε YOU are σεσωσμένοι having been saved διὰ through πίστεως· faith; καὶ and τοῦτο this οὐκ not ἐξ out of ὑμῶν, YOU, θεοῦ of God τὸ the δῶρον· gift; 9 οὐκ not ἐξ out of ἔργων, works, ἵνα in order that μή not τις someone καυχήσηται. should boast. 10 αὐτοῦ Of him γάρ for ἐσμεν we are ποίημα, thing made, κτισθέντες (ones) having been created ἐν in Χριστῷ Christ Ἰησοῦ Jesus ἐπὶ upon ἔργοις works ἀγαθοῖς good οἷς to which προητοίμασεν he prepared before ὁ the θεὸς God ἵνα in order that ἐν in αὐτοῖς them περιπατήσωμεν. we might walk.

Christ. 14 Αὐτὸς He γάρ for ἐστιν is ἡ the εἰρήνη peace ἡμῶν, of us, ὁ the (one) ποιήσας having made τὰ the (things) ἀμφότερα both ἓν one καὶ and τὸ the μεσότοιχον middle wall τοῦ of the φραγμοῦ fence λύσας, having loosed, 15 τὴν the ἔχθραν enmity ἐν in τῇ the σαρκὶ flesh αὐτοῦ, of him, τὸν the νόμον Law τῶν of the ἐντολῶν commandments ἐν in δόγμασιν decrees καταργήσας, having made ineffective, ἵνα in order that τοὺς the δύο two κτίσῃ he might create ἐν in αὑτῷ himself εἰς into ἕνα one καινὸν new ἄνθρωπον man ποιῶν making εἰρήνην, peace, 16 καὶ and ἀποκαταλλάξῃ he might fully reconcile τοὺς the ἀμφοτέρους both ἐν in ἑνὶ one σώματι body τῷ to the θεῷ God διὰ through τοῦ the σταυροῦ stake ἀποκτείνας having killed τὴν the ἔχθραν enmity ἐν in αὐτῷ· him; 17 καὶ and ἐλθὼν having come εὐηγγελίσατο he declared as good news εἰρήνην peace ὑμῖν to YOU τοῖς the (ones) μακρὰν long [way] καὶ and εἰρήνην peace τοῖς to the (ones) ἐγγύς· near; 18 ὅτι because δι’ through αὐτοῦ him ἔχομεν we are having τὴν the προσαγωγὴν leading toward οἱ the ἀμφότεροι both ἐν in ἑνὶ one πνεύματι spirit πρὸς toward τὸν the πατέρα. 19 Ἄρα Really οὖν therefore οὐκέτι not yet ἐστὲ YOU are ξένοι strangers καὶ and πάροικοι, dwellers beside, ἀλλὰ but ἐστὲ YOU are συνπολῖται fellow citizens τῶν of the ἁγίων holy (ones) καὶ and οἰκεῖοι household [members] τοῦ of the θεοῦ, God, 20 ἐποικοδομηθέντες having been built up ἐπὶ upon τῷ the θεμελίῳ foundation τῶν of the ἀποστόλων apostles καὶ and προφητῶν, of prophets, ὄντος being ἀκρογωνιαίου top corner (stone) αὐτοῦ of him Χριστοῦ of Christ Ἰησοῦ, Jesus, 21 ἐν in ᾧ whom πᾶσα all οἰκοδομὴ building συναρμολογουμένη being jointed together αὔξει is growing εἰς into ναὸν divine habitation ἅγιον holy ἐν in κυρίῳ, Lord, 22 ἐν in ᾧ whom καὶ also ὑμεῖς YOU συνοικοδομεῖσθε are being built up together εἰς into κατοικητήριον dwelling place τοῦ of the θεοῦ God ἐν in πνεύματι. spirit.

8 ἐμοὶ to me τῷ the (one) ἐλαχιστοτέρῳ less than the least πάντων of all ἁγίων holy (ones) ἐδόθη was given ἡ the χάρις undeserved kindness αὕτη— this— τοῖς to the ἔθνεσιν nations εὐαγγελίσασθαι to declare as good news τὸ the ἀνεξιχνίαστον not to be traced out πλοῦτος riches τοῦ of the χριστοῦ, Christ, 9 καὶ and φωτίσαι to bring to light τίς what ἡ the οἰκονομία house administration τοῦ of the μυστηρίου mystery τοῦ of the (one) ἀποκεκρυμμένου having been hidden away ἀπὸ from τῶν the αἰώνων ages ἐν in τῷ the θεῷ God τῷ the (one) τὰ the πάντα all (things) κτίσαντι, having created, 10 ἵνα in order that γνωρισθῇ it might be made known νῦν now ταῖς to the ἀρχαῖς governments καὶ and ταῖς to the ἐξουσίαις authorities ἐν in τοῖς the ἐπουρανίοις heavenly [places] διὰ through τῆς the ἐκκλησίας ecclesia ἡ the πολυποίκιλος much diversified σοφία wisdom τοῦ of the θεοῦ, God, 11 κατὰ according to πρόθεσιν purpose τῶν of the αἰώνων ages ἣν which [purpose] ἐποίησεν he made ἐν in τῷ the χριστῷ Christ Ἰησοῦ Jesus τῷ the κυρίῳ Lord ἡμῶν, of us, 12 ἐν in ᾧ whom ἔχομεν we are having τὴν the παρρησίαν outspokenness καὶ and προσαγωγὴν leading toward ἐν in πεποιθήσει confidence διὰ through τῆς the πίστεως faith αὐτοῦ. of him. 13 Διὸ Through which αἰτοῦμαι I am requesting μὴ not ἐνκακεῖν to be behaving badly within ἐν in ταῖς the θλίψεσίν tribulations μου of me ὑπὲρ over ὑμῶν, YOU, ἥτις which ἐστὶν is δόξα glory ὑμῶν. of YOU.

4 Παρακαλῶ I am entreating οὖν therefore ὑμᾶς YOU ἐγὼ I ὁ the δέσμιος bound one ἐν in κυρίῳ Lord ἀξίως worthily περιπατῆσαι to walk τῆς of the κλήσεως calling ἧς of which ἐκλήθητε, YOU were called, 2 μετὰ with πάσης all ταπεινοφροσύνης lowly-mindedness καὶ and πραΰτητος, mildness, μετὰ with μακροθυμίας, longness of spirit, ἀνεχόμενοι holding selves up ἀλλήλων of one another ἐν in ἀγάπῃ, love, 3 σπουδάζοντες speeding up τηρεῖν to be observing τὴν the ἑνότητα unity τοῦ of the πνεύματος spirit ἐν in τῷ the συνδέσμῳ joint-bond τῆς of the εἰρήνης· peace; 4 ἓν one σῶμα body καὶ and ἓν one πνεῦμα, spirit, καθὼς according as καὶ also ἐκλήθητε YOU were called ἐν in μιᾷ one ἐλπίδι hope τῆς of the κλήσεως calling ὑμῶν· of YOU; 5 εἷς one κύριος, Lord, μία one πίστις, faith, ἓν one βάπτισμα· baptism; 6 εἷς one θεὸς God καὶ and πατὴρ Father πάντων, of all (ones), ὁ the (one) ἐπὶ upon πάντων all καὶ and διὰ through πάντων all καὶ and ἐν in πᾶσιν. all.

7 Ἑνὶ To one δὲ but ἑκάστῳ to each ἡμῶν of us ἐδόθη was given ἡ the χάρις undeserved kindness κατὰ according to τὸ the μέτρον measure τῆς of the δωρεᾶς free gift τοῦ of the χριστοῦ.
