CORINTH—CITY WEY DEY MIDDLE OF TWO SEA
Corinth be dey for one narrow land wey connect the south part of Greece or Peloponnese with the other part of the country. This narrow land dey middle of two sea and the side wey narrow pass for the land no wide reach 6 km. So Corinth get two place wey ship de stop. The one for West na Lechaeum, and ships wey de go or come from Italy, Sicily, and Spain dey this side. The one for East na Cenchreae, and ships wey de go or come from the Aegean area, Asia Minor, Syria, and Egypt, dey this side.
Strong breeze de dey for the ending side of the south part of Greece, so people wey de control ship de like to stop for any of the two place for Corinth wey ship de stop, drop the load wey dey their ship, then carry-am pass land go load for another ship for the other place wey ship de stop. If ship no heavy, them fit comot-am from water, carry-am pass one special road wey them make, go the other sea. As sea dey east and west side of Corinth, and land dey north and south side, people de come from land and sea to buy and sell things for there. This business people bring money and many bad things come the place.
For the time of apostle Paul, Corinth na the capital of Achaia, wey Rome de control, and na important place for government matter. Many religions dey the city. Them get temple to worship the emperor for Rome, many shrine and temple for Greek and Egypt people gods, and Jew people synagogue dey there too.—Acts 18:4.
Every two years, people de do sport competition for Isthmia wey near Corinth. This competition nearly dey important like Olympics. E fit be say when them de do this competition for 51 C.E., apostle Paul dey Corinth. Na im make one Bible dictionary talk say: ‘E no surprise us say the first time wey e use the example of people wey de run, na for the letter wey e write to people for Corinth.’—1 Cor. 9:24-27.

LETTERS WEY PAUL WRITE WEY ENCOURAGE PEOPLE
For the one and half years wey apostle Paul stay for Corinth, from about 50-52 C.E., e write at least two letters wey later be part of the Christian Greek Scriptures—First and Second Thessalonians. Na the same time or after small time don pass na im e write letter to the Christians for Galatia.
First Thessalonians na the first letter wey Paul write, wey later be part of the Bible. E go Thessalonica around 50 C.E., for the second time wey e travel as missionary. After small time, Jew people come dey against the brothers for the new congregation for there. This one come make Paul and Silas leave the city. (Acts 17:1-10, 13) Paul de worry about that new congregation, so e try to go back two times, “but Satan block road” for-am. So e send Timothy to encourage the brothers, and make their mind come down. E fit be say na for ending of 50 C.E., Timothy go back go meet Paul for Corinth, and e bring better report about the congregation for Thessalonica. Na after that time Paul write this letter.—1 Thess. 2:17–3:7.
E be like say Paul write Second Thessalonians small time after e write the first letter, maybe for 51 C.E. For the two letters, Timothy and Silvanus (wey them call Silas for the book of Acts) join Paul greet the brothers. But nothing show say after the time wey Paul stay for Corinth, the three of them dey together again. (Acts 18:5, 18; 1 Thess. 1:1; 2 Thess. 1:1) Why Paul write this second letter? E fit be say the person wey carry im first letter go give the brothers don tell-am other things about the congregation. This one make Paul praise the brothers because of their love and endurance, but e still correct wetin some people for Thessalonica de talk say, the time wey the Lord go dey around don come.—2 Thess. 1:3-12; 2:1, 2.
The letter wey Paul write to the Christians for Galatia show say e don go visit them at least two times before e write letter to them. For the year 47-48 C.E., Paul and Barnabas visit Antioch wey dey Pisidia, them still visit Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe, and all this place dey inside Galatia, wey Rome people de control. For 49 C.E., Paul and Silas go back to the same area. (Acts 13:1–14:23; 16:1-6) Paul write this letter because some fake brothers wey come after e just comot, de teach people say Christians must circumcise and follow the Law of Moses. Paul go don write this letter as e just hear this lie-lie thing wey the people de teach. E fit be say e write the letter when e dey for Corinth. But e fit still be say e write-am when e stop small for Ephesus, as e de travel go back to Antioch wey dey Syria, or na when e don reach Antioch e write-am.—Acts 18:18-23.

THE PROMISE WEY PAUL MAKE
Acts 18:18 talk say when Paul dey Cenchreae, e “cut im hair short because of the promise wey e make to God.” Which kind promise be that?
Person fit make promise to God say e go use im own mind do something for God, or give-am something, or do some special things to serve-am. Some people think say Paul cut im hair because e make promise as Nazirite. But as Bible talk-am, when person wey be Nazirite don finish the time wey e use do special thing for Jehovah, e go cut im hair for “the place wey them de take enter the tent of meeting.” Since na only for Jerusalem them de do this thing, and Paul be dey for Cenchreae, e mean say no be Nazirite promise e make.—Num. 6:5, 18.
The book of Acts no tell us the time wey Paul make im promise. E fit be say e don make this promise even before e become Christian. We no know too whether Paul beg say make Jehovah do any particular thing for-am. One person wey learn Bible matter well-well talk say, e fit be say Paul cut im hair to “show say e de thank God as e protect-am, wey make [Paul] fit complete im preaching work for Corinth.”
