Allow God Thinking to Guide Your Decision About Liquor

WE SURE that you can enjoy the plenty gifts that Jehovah gave you and you grateful that he allow you to use your free will to enjoy them. The Bible say wine that gift from Jehovah. It even say: “Bread can make people laugh, and wine can make people enjoy life.” (Eccl. 10:19; Ps. 104:15) But maybe you na see that some people get drinking problem. Also, people all over the world get different-different ideas about drinking liquor. So wetin can help Christians to make good decisions about drinking liquor?

No matter where we living or the type of culture we grew up in, we must allow God thinking to guide us when we making decision. When we do it, we will be happy in life.

Maybe you na notice that plenty people in the world can drink liquor most of the time and they can drink it plenty. Some people can drink liquor because it can make them feel fine. Other people can drink liquor to stop worrying about their problems. And in some area them, people can think that when somebody drink plenty liquor it mean they mature or they strong.

But for us Christians, we can get wise direction from our Creator who love us. For example, he na tell us the bad-bad thing them that can happen when we drink over plus. Maybe we na read Proverbs 23:​29-35 that describe somebody that drunk, and talk about some of the bad things that can happen to the person.a One Christian elder in Europe name Daniel, remember how his life was looking before he became true Christian. He say, “I use to drink plenty liquor, and it made me to make bad decisions. Because of that, bad-bad thing them happen to me and I can still feel bad when I think about them.”

How we can make wise decisions about liquor and avoid the problem them that can come when somebody drink too much? We must allow God thinking to guide our decision and the thing them we can do.

Let look at what the Bible say about liquor and some reason them why people can drink.

WETIN THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT DRINKING LIQUOR?

The Bible not say we must not drink liquor. In fact, the Bible say that drinking wine that something people can enjoy. It say: “Eat your food and be happy, and drink your wine for you to be happy.” (Eccl. 9:7) Sometime, Jesus and other faithful people way back use to drink wine.—Matt. 26:​27-29; Luke 7:34; 1 Tim. 5:23.

But the Bible show the clear difference between drinking some liquor and getting drunk. It say: “Don’t drink wine and get drunk.” (Eph. 5:18) And it even say: “drunkards . . . will not inherit God Kingdom.” (1 Cor. 6:10) Yes, Jehovah make it very clear that he hate drinking too much and getting drunk. Instead of just following what our culture say, we want do what will make God happy.

Some people feel that they can drink plenty liquor and they can’t get drunk. But that one can cause serious problem. The Bible say that when somebody like drinking too much liquor it can make them to commit serious sin and spoil their friendship with Jehovah. (Titus 2:3; Prov. 20:1) Jesus even say that “heavy drinking” can make someone to not enter in God new world. (Luke 21:​34-36) So, wetin can help us to avoid the problem them that easy to happen because of drinking liquor?

THINK ABOUT YOUR DRINKING HABITS AND THE REASON WHY YOU CAN DRINK

When we making decision about drinking liquor, it risky to only think about what most people in our culture can do. When it come to thing them like food and drinking liquor, Christians must be wise to do what will make Jehovah happy. The Bible tell us say: “Whether you eating or drinking or doing anything else, do all things for God glory.” (1 Cor. 10:31) Let some questions and Bible advice them here for us to think on:

I can drink liquor just for people to like me? Exodus 23:2 say: “You must not follow the crowd.” Here Jehovah was warning the Israelite them to not follow people that can’t obey Him. That good advice here for Christians today. If we allow other people to control our thinking and our decision about liquor, it will spoil our friendship with Jehovah small-small.—Rom. 12:2.

I can drink liquor so that people can think say I strong? In some cultures, people not get problem with heavy drinking and drinking all the time. (1 Pet. 4:3) But just see what 1 Corinthians 16:13 encourage us to do. It say: “Stay awake, stand firm in the faith, carry on in a manly way, grow mighty.” You think liquor can make somebody strong? No. It easy for liquor to make people to not think clear and to not make good decisions. So drinking plenty liquor can’t prove that somebody strong, but instead it can show that the person foolish. Isaiah 28:7 talk about the person who can allow liquor to make them make wrong decision and do things that not correct.

The strength we need to do the right thing can come from Jehovah and it can help us to ‘stay awake and stand firm in the faith.’ (Ps. 18:32) We can do this one by doing our best to stay away from dangers and to make decision them that will not spoil our friendship with Jehovah. Jesus show that he was having this same kind na strength when he was on earth. And plenty people use to respect him because he was having courage to do Jehovah will.

I can use liquor to help me to not worry about my problems? Jehovah holy spirit help one man to write this: “Anytime I worrying too much, that you [Jehovah] can comfort and encourage me.” (Ps. 94:19) If something worrying you, rely on Jehovah to help you, don’t depend on liquor. One good thing that can help you that to pray to Jehovah more. Also, plenty people na benefit because they ask mature brother and sister them in the congregation for advice. To talk the true, drinking liquor to help us bear our problem can make someone to not do the right thing. (Hos. 4:11) Daniel who we talk about before say: “I use to worry and be feeling guilty. I use to drink so that I can’t worry too much, but this one make my problems worse. And I was not having any respect for myself and my friend them went away from me.” Wetin finally help Daniel? He say, “I got to know that I must not depend on liquor but I must depend on Jehovah. With Jehovah help, I was able to deal with my problems and overcome them.” The true that, Jehovah always there to help us when we facing problem, even if it look like we not get hope.—Phil. 4:​6, 7; 1 Pet. 5:7.

If you can drink sometime, you can check yourself to see whether you drinking fast-fast or plenty by asking yourself this question them, ‘Some of my family member or close friend na talk about my drinking habits?’ If so, it mean you getting some kind na habit or problem that you not know about. ‘I drinking more liquor than before?’ Maybe that the situation of somebody who not depending on liquor yet, but it show that they getting there. ‘I can find it hard to not drink liquor for some days or for long time?’ If so, then maybe drinking liquor na become the person habit or they depending on it. Maybe the person will need doctor to help them overcome the problem.

Because drinking liquor can cause plenty problems, some Christian them na choose to not drink any liquor. Other people can decide to not drink liquor because they not like the taste. If some of your friend them make that decision, you can be kind to them and show that you respect their decision by not talking bad about them.

Or maybe you na decide that it will be wise to put limit on the amount of liquor you will drink. Or maybe you will set rule for yourself about the amount of time you will drink. For example, maybe you will say ‘I will drink one time every week or drink small liquor when I eating.’ Some people na decide on what kind na liquor to drink. They know their limit when they drinking wine or beer and they can’t drink any hard liquor or mix it with other drinks. When the person make it clear to himself on where to stop when it come to drinking business, it will be easy for him to not go overboard. And mature Christian must not be embarrass because of the decision he made and to stick to it.

We must remember how other people will feel when we making decision about liquor. Romans 14:21 say: “It better to not eat meat or drink wine or do anything that will stumble your brother.” How you can apply this advice? Show love. If you feel drinking liquor will make somebody feel bad, love will move you to not drink liquor when you around them. When you do this one, you will show that you respect and care for other people feeling and not just yourself .—1 Cor. 10:24.

Also, maybe the government get law about liquor, and Christian them must obey that law. Maybe this law them will say you must reach certain age before you drink liquor or you must not drink liquor and drive or use certain machine them.—Rom. 13:​1-5.

Jehovah na give us plenty wonderful gifts and one of them that the gift of free will. We can use it to choose wetin we will eat and wetin we will drink. Let the thing them we choose show that we value the gift of free will, and let use this gift to make Jehovah happy.
