Make We Dey As One Like Jehovah and Jesus

‘I de pray Father make all of them be one, the way you be one with me.’—JOHN 17:20, 21.

SONG: 24, 99

WETIN BE YOUR ANSWER?

  • When Jesus dey this earth, which kind partial e disciple need to remove from their heart?

  • For apostles their time, which example show say people fit dey as one even though say e no easy?

  • Wetin we fit do make brothers and sisters remain as one?

1, 2. (a) Wetin Jesus pray about for e last prayer with the apostles? (b) Wetin fit be the reason why Jesus want make the apostles remain as one?

JESUS pray with e disciples for the last supper. For the prayer, Jesus talk wetin de e mind. E want make all the disciples be one, the way e be one with God. (Read John 17:20, 21.) If them dey as one, e go show say na Jehovah really send Jesus make e come this world and do wetin God want. The love wey e disciples get for each other go show say they really be e disciples. And this love go help them remain as one.—John 13:34, 35.

2 We fit understand why Jesus repeat to the apostles say they need to dey as one. For example, for the last time wey e chop with them, e notice say they no dey as one. Just as e don happen before, they come de quarrel about “who they think say e big pass among them.” (Luke 22:24-27; Mark 9:33, 34) Another time, James and John tell Jesus make e put them for big position for e Kingdom, and make they sitdown for e left and right side.—Mark 10:35-40.

3. Which things fit don make disciples of Jesus that time, no dey as one, and which question we go answer for this topic?

3 If the disciples of Jesus continue to fight for position, they no go fit dey as one again. But no be only that one fit divide them. The people for time of Jesus no dey as one because they hate each other and them de do partial. But disciples of Jesus go need to remove that kind thing from their heart. For this topic, we go talk about this questions: (1) When Jesus see say people no like other people wey no be their country-people, wetin e do? (2) How Jesus help e disciples make they really dey as one, and make they no de do partial? (3) How the things wey Jesus teach fit help us dey as one?

PARTIAL WEY JESUS AND E DISCIPLES FACE

4. Give examples of the kind partial wey Jesus face?

4 Jesus even face partial. When Philip tell Nathanael say e don see the Messiah, Nathanael talk say: “Any good thing fit come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46) E fit be say Nathanael know wetin Micah 5:2 talk about the Messiah. And maybe Nathanael think say Nazareth no too dey important for Messiah to come from there. Na so some people from Judea wey they get high position hate Jesus because na Galilee person e be. (John 7:52) Many people for Judea de look people from Galilee as nothing. Other Jew people want make Jesus vex, na e make they call Jesus Samaritan man. (John 8:48) Samaritan people their culture and religion dey different from Jew people their own. People from Judea and Galilee no de too respect Samaritan people. And they no want do things with them.—John 4:9.

5. Which kind partial disciples of Jesus face?

5 The leaders for Jew people no still like disciples of Jesus at all. Pharisee people see them as “people wey curse dey for their head.” (John 7:47-49) Any person wey e no go the school for religion and wey e no follow their tradition, na ordinary and useless person for their eye. (Acts 4:13, ftn.) That time, people like their religion, their position for community, and their tribe pass any other thing. Na e make they hate Jesus and e disciples. But even the disciples of Jesus get that kind character too. So if they want remain as one, they go need to change the way them de think.

6. Which example show how partial fit affect us?

6 Today, plenty people for the world de do partial. E fit be say people do us partial, or na we de do people sometimes. For Australia, one sister wey e de pioneer now talk say: “As I de think about how they suffer Aboriginal people in those days and for our time, I begin hate white people more-more. Wetin make me still hate them na because of wetin I suffer for their hand.” Before, one brother from Canada hate people wey their language dey different from e own. The brother talk say: “I think say French people better pass other people. And I begin hate English people.”

7. Wetin Jesus do about partial when e dey this earth?

7 As e be when Jesus dey this earth, the partial for inside people their heart fit really strong, and e no easy to remove-am. Wetin Jesus do about-am? (1) E treat everybody the same way. E preach to rich people and poor people, Pharisee and Samaritan, and even to tax collectors and sinners. (2) E teach e disciples make they no de suspect other people or treat them anyhow. E no only tell them, but e still show them example.

TO FIGHT PARTIAL—GET LOVE AND PUT BODY DOWN

8. Which important reason for Bible de help Christians remain as one? Explain.

8 Jesus teach e disciples one important thing wey e de help us remain as one. E talk say: “All of wuna na brothers.” (Read Matthew 23:8, 9.) One thing wey e make all of us “brothers” be say, we come from Adam. (Acts 17:26) But no be only that one. Jesus talk say e disciples na brothers and sisters because they take Jehovah as their Papa. (Matt. 12:50) Apart from that one, because of the love and faith wey they get, they don come together as one big family de serve God. Na e make for the letters wey the apostles write to Christians, they call them ‘brothers and sisters.’—Rom. 1:13; 1 Pet. 2:17; 1 John 3:13.a

9, 10. (a) Why Jew people no suppose dey proud because of their tribe? (b) How Jesus make us understand say partial no good? (Go check the first picture.)

9 Jesus talk say e dey important make we de put body down. E talk this one after e don make-am clear say make we de see each other as brothers and sisters. (Read Matthew 23:11, 12.) As we don talk before, sometimes because the apostles no put body down, e de bring katakata among them. Another problem fit be say, that time, many Jew people believe say they better pass other people because Abraham na their papa. But John the Baptist tell them say: “God fit use this stones make children for Abraham.”—Luke 3:8.

The good Samaritan de go help one Jew person wey thief-people beat when e de travel

10 Person fit dey proud because of the place wey e come from. But Jesus talk say that kind thing no good at all. E talk this one when one scribe ask say: “Na who really be my neighbor?” Jesus use one story answer the man. The story na about one Jew wey thief-people beat-am for road when e de travel. Other Jew people pass, but they no help this their country-man. Na one Samaritan man come help because e pity this Jew. How Jesus end the story? E tell the scribe say make e de do like the Samaritan man. (Luke 10:25-37) Jesus use this story show say Samaritan person fit teach Jew people wetin e really mean to love other people.

11. Why disciples of Jesus no need to do partial, and how Jesus help them understand-am?

11 Before Jesus go heaven, e talk say make e disciples preach “for all the place for Judea and Samaria, and for the whole earth.” (Acts 1:8) Disciples of Jesus go fit do this work if they fight to remove the partial wey they get, and they no dey proud. Before this time, Jesus don prepare them for this big work. E help them see say people wey they no be Jew still get good character. For example, e praise one army officer from different place because of e strong faith. (Matt. 8:5-10) When Jesus dey for Nazareth, e talk about the way Jehovah favor people from another country. For example, the Phoenician widow from Zarephath and the Syrian leper wey e name na Naaman. (Luke 4:25-27) Jesus no only preach to one Samaritan woman. E still stay for Samaritan town for two days because the people want hear e message.—John 4:21-24, 40.

CHRISTIANS FOR APOSTLE THEIR TIME FIGHT PARTIAL

Jesus de talk to one Samaritan woman for one well

12, 13. (a) How the apostles behave when Jesus teach one Samaritan woman? (Go check the first picture.) (b) Wetin show say James and John no really understand wetin Jesus de try teach them?

12 But e no easy make the apostles remove partial from their heart. E surprise them say Jesus de teach the Samaritan woman with all e heart. (John 4:9, 27) The leaders for religion of Jew people, no go talk with woman for public. And e go even hard them more if na Samaritan woman wey e life no straight. Apostles of Jesus come de tell Jesus make e chop. But wetin Jesus tell them show say e de enjoy as e de talk about God with this woman. For Jesus, na this one dey important pass the food. God want make e preach to everybody, even to this Samaritan woman. Preaching just be like food for Jesus.—John 4:31-34.

13 James and John no really understand wetin Jesus de try teach them. One time wey Jesus and e disciples de travel pass Samaria, they look for place wey they fit sleep for one Samaritan village. But the Samaritan people no gree give them place. So James and John begin vex. They say they want make fire come from heaven and destroy the whole village. But Jesus give them strong correction. (Luke 9:51-56) If to say na their town this village dey, you think say James and John for behave like that? Maybe they vex because they think say they better pass this people. But e fit be say apostle John regret why e behave like that. Na so because another time when e go preach for Samaria, the people listen.—Acts 8:14, 25.

14. How the apostles solve one problem wey e fit be say na language cause-am?

14 Small time after Pentecost 33 C.E., one problem happen about partial among the brothers. When them de share food for poor widows, they no give the widows wey their language na Greek. (Acts 6:1) E fit be so because them de favor one language pass another. The apostles do something about the matter quick-quick. They choose men wey them de show good example make they handle the matter. Because all the men wey they choose get Greek name, e fit don make the mind of this widows really come down.

Peter enter the house of Cornelius

15. How Peter learn to treat everybody the same way? (Go check the first picture.)

15 For 36 C.E., people from other country come de be disciple of Jesus. Before, apostle Peter de only like to do things with Jew people. But when Jehovah make-am clear say make e people no do partial, Peter preach to one Roman soldier wey e name na Cornelius. (Read Acts 10:28, 34, 35.) After that time, Peter begin chop and do things with Christians wey they no be Jew. But after some years, for the city of Antioch, Peter stop to chop with them. (Gal. 2:11-14) But Paul correct Peter, and e accept-am. Why we talk say e accept-am? Because of the first letter wey e write to brothers for Asia Minor. Among them na brothers wey they be Jew, and brothers wey they no be Jew. For the letter, e talk better thing about brothers for the whole world.—1 Pet. 1:1; 2:17.

16. Wetin other people know about Christians for old time?

16 E clear say the apostles don really learn from Jesus how to love “different-different kind of people.” (John 12:32; 1 Tim. 4:10) Even though say e take time, they change the way them de think. People that time know say the brothers and sisters really love each other. One man wey e name na Tertullian write about-am around the year 200 C.E. E talk say: “They love each other . . . They even ready to die for each other.” Because Christians that time wear the “new character,” they begin see everybody the same way, as God de see them.—Col. 3:10, 11.

17. Wetin we fit do to remove partial inside our heart? Give example.

17 Today, e fit still be say, e go take time for us to fit remove partial from our heart. One sister for France talk how e struggle with-am. E talk say: “Jehovah don teach me wetin love be, wetin e mean to share things with people, and wetin e mean to love different-different kind of people. But I still de learn how to treat other people the way Jehovah de treat them. But the struggle no de always easy. So I still de pray about-am.” Another sister for Spain still de struggle. E talk say: “Sometimes, e no de easy make I no do partial to person from another tribe. But many times, I de win. I know say the fight never end. I thank Jehovah, and I happy say the people wey I dey with, dey as one.” All of us go need to really check wetin dey our heart. E fit be say after we check, we go need to struggle to remove any sign of partial, like this sisters.

AS LOVE DE GROW, PARTIAL DE DIE

18, 19. (a) Why we no suppose to reject any person? (b) How we fit do-am?

18 E good make we remember say, before, we no near God. This one make us be like strangers. (Eph. 2:12) But Jehovah draw us come e side “with rope of love.” (Hos. 11:4; John 6:44) And Jesus welcome us too. E just dey like say e open door for us make we join the family of God. (Read Romans 15:7.) Because Jesus don accept us, even as we be sinners, make we no ever reject any person!

Three young sisters wey they come from diffrerent-different place

Because we try to get the sense wey God de give, we dey as one and we love each other (Check paragraph 19)

19 As we de near the end of this world, people go de divide more-more. They go de do partial and de hate each other more-more. (Gal. 5:19-21; 2 Tim. 3:13) But because we de serve Jehovah, e good make we get the sense wey God de give. This sense de help us treat everybody the same way. E de help us make we de make peace with people too. (Jas. 3:17, 18) We de make friends with people from another country. Their culture no de make us vex, and we fit even learn their language. All this one de make us happy. The peace wey we go get no go end, and we go de treat other people the right way.—Isa. 48:17, 18.

20. Wetin de happen when love change our heart and mind?

20 The sister from Australia wey we talk about before, talk say e change the way e de think because of the plenty good things wey e learn from Bible. E talk say small-small, e stop partial and e no de hate people again. And the brother from Canada talk say na now e know say people hate other people because they no know anything about them. E talk say “person fit get good character no matter the place wey e come from.” This brother even marry sister wey e language na English! All this example show say love de remove any partial from our heart. E de make us remain as one people wey nothing fit divide!—Col. 3:14.

a The word “brothers” fit still mean sisters for congregation. Paul write letter to “brothers” for Rome. But e clear say sisters still dey among, and e call some of them by their name. (Rom. 16:3, 6, 12) For long time now, Watchtower magazine don call Christians for congregation ‘brothers and sisters.’
