John Want Hear From Jesus

John the Baptist don dey prison for about one year now. But e dey hear about all the miracle wey Jesus dey do. Just think about how John go feel when im disciples tell am how Jesus take resurrect one widow pikin for Nain. But John want hear from Jesus imself, wetin all this things mean. So John send two of im disciples make dem go ask Jesus sey: “Na you be the Person wey dey come, or make we expect another person?”—Luke 7:19.

The question surprise you? John no dey play with God work. About two years ago, when e dey baptize Jesus, e see as God spirit come ontop Jesus, and e hear God voice when e talk sey e don choose Jesus. So we no get any reason to begin think sey John faith don dey weak. If na so, Jesus for no talk better things about John when e answer am. But if John no dey doubt, why e ask Jesus this question?

E be like sey John want make Jesus talk by imself sey na im be the Messiah. This one go give am strong mind as e dey suffer for prison. And e be like sey John question get another meaning. E know sey the Messiah go be King, and e go save people as God Word talk. But many months don pass since Jesus baptize and John still dey prison. So John want know whether another person go come after Jesus to do the rest things wey dem sey the Messiah go do.

Jesus no tell John disciples sey, ‘Una no know? Na me be the Person wey dey come.’ But, e do wetin show sey God dey im back. E cure plenty sick people. After, e come tell John disciples sey: “Go tell John wetin una dey hear and wetin una dey see: Blind people don dey see and cripple don dey waka, leprosy dey comot from leper body, and deaf people don dey hear, people wey die, don dey come back to life and poor people dey hear the good news.”—Matthew 11:4, 5.

John question show sey e fit dey expect Jesus to do other things. Like to free am (John) from prison. But Jesus tell John sey make e no expect pass the miracle wey e dey hear about.

After John disciples go, Jesus tell the people wey gather sey John pass prophet. Na John be the Messenger of Jehovah wey Malachi 3:1 talk about. Na im still be the prophet Elijah wey Malachi 4:5, 6 talk about. Jesus come explain: “True true I dey tell una this thing sey, among the people wey woman born, nobody high pass John the Baptist, but the person wey small pass for the Kingdom of heaven high pass am.”—Matthew 11:11.

Why Jesus talk sey the person wey small pass for the Kingdom of heaven high pass John? Na to show sey John the Baptist no go dey part of the Kingdom for heaven. Na John prepare road for Jesus, but e die before Jesus open the road to heaven. (Hebrews 10:19, 20) But John na prophet wey serve God well, so e go dey among people wey go enjoy for earth under God Kingdom.
