BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | MATTHEW 12-13

“The Story About the Wheat and the Grass”

(Matthew 13:24-26) E come tell dem another story sey: “The Kingdom wey dey heaven be like one man wey plant better seed for im farm. 25 When people dey sleep, im enemy come plant grass join the wheat, come comot. 26 When the wheat grow and come start to dey bring fruit, the grass start to grow too.

w13 7/15 9-10 ¶2-3.

“See! I Dey With Una Everytime”

2 The things wey dey happen for that farm show how and when Jesus go gather all the people wey be wheat from this world. This na the people wey God don choose to rule with Jesus for heaven. And na Pentecost 33 C.E the planting start. Dem go gather this people finish when the ones wey still dey alive for the last days, go receive their final stamp. Later, dem go join Jesus for heaven. (Matt. 24:31; Rev. 7:1-4) Just as person wey dey ontop mountain dey see far around the mountain, na so the story about the wheat and the grass dey help us understand wetin go happen for about 2000 years. So wetin be some of the things about the Kingdom wey we don dey understand now? The story talk about planting season, when the plant grow, and harvest season. For this topic, the main thing wey we go talk about na the harvest season.

JESUS DEY PROTECT DEM

3 The grass for the story na fake Christians. And na after 100 C.E. dem start to “grow too.” (Matt. 13:26) After 300 C.E, this fake Christians don plenty well well pass the Christians wey God choose to rule with Jesus. Remember, for the story, the slaves tell the oga sey make dem uproot the grass. (Matt. 13:28) Wetin their oga come talk?

(Matthew 13:27-29) So the slaves wey dey work for the oga wey get house come meet am and ask am sey, ‘Oga, no be better seed you plant for your farm? How grass come take enter?’ 28 E tell dem sey, ‘Na one enemy, one man, do am.’ The slaves come ask am sey, ‘You want make we go uproot dem?’ 29 E come talk sey, ‘No, because by mistake, una fit uproot the wheat as una dey uproot the grass.

“See! I Dey With Una Everytime”

4 Jesus talk about the wheat and the grass sey: “Leave dem make dem grow together until the harvest season.” This one show sey from the apostles time come reach now, e no get when Christians wey be like wheat finish for this earth. Wetin Jesus later talk show sey this one na true. E sey: “I dey with una everytime go reach when the world go end.” (Matt. 28:20) So Jesus go protect this people wey God don choose from that time, go reach the end of the last days. But since the fake Christians come plenty pass this Christians wey be like wheat, we no come know who dey among dem all that time. But some years before the harvest season start, we come fit dey know who this people be. How we take know?

(Matthew 13:30) Leave dem make dem grow together until the harvest season. And for the harvest season, I go tell the people wey go harvest am sey: Make una first comot the grass and tie dem separate separate to burn dem; after make una gather the wheat put inside my storehouse.’”

w13 7/15 12 ¶10-12

“See! I Dey With Una Everytime”

10 First, dem comot the grass. Jesus talk sey: “For the harvest season, I go tell the people wey go harvest am sey: Make una first comot the grass and tie dem separate separate.” After 1914, the angels start to “comot” or separate the fake Christians wey be like grass from the “sons of the Kingdom.”—Matt. 13:30, 38, 41.

11 As the angels dey do this work, e come really clear who the true Christians be, and who the fake Christians be. (Rev. 18:1, 4) By 1919, e clear sey Babylon the Great don fall. Wetin really make true Christians different from fake Christians? Na the preaching work. The brothers wey dey direct the Bible Students work come start to let dem know why e dey important make all of dem dey preach about the Kingdom. For example, for 1919 dem print one small book wey be To Whom the Work Is Entrusted. The book encourage all this people wey God don choose, to dey preach from house to house. E talk sey: “The work big well well, but na the Lord get am and e go give us power to fit do am. Make una join do this work because na big favor.” Wetin come happen? 1922 Watch Tower talk sey, from that time the Bible Students come start to preach more more. E no tey, house to house preaching come be wetin dem take know true Christians, even till now.

12 Second, dem gather the wheat. Jesus command im angels sey: “Gather the wheat put inside my storehouse.” (Matt. 13:30) Since 1919, the angels don dey gather the wheat. Dem be the “sons of the Kingdom” wey Jesus don clean, as one group. The angels work go complete when the ones wey still dey alive till the end of the last days, go join Jesus for heaven.—Dan. 7:18, 22, 27.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Matthew 12:20) Any grass wey don bend, e no go break am comot, and e no go quench any lamp thread wey want off, until e make justice win.

nwtsty study note for Mt 12:20

lamp thread wey want off: The lamp wey many people dey use for house that time resemble small kettle wey dem use clay make. Dem dey put olive oil inside the lamp to make the lamp thread produce light. The Greek word for “lamp thread wey want off,” fit mean lamp thread wey dey bring smoke because small fire still dey am, even though sey the light want quench or e don quench. Isaiah 42:3 talk how Jesus go take treat people. E no go ever quench the last hope wey poor people get.

(Matthew 13:25) When people dey sleep, im enemy come plant grass join the wheat, come comot.

w16.10 32

You Know?

You believe sey for Bible time person fit enter another person farm go plant grass?

FOR Matthew 13:24-26, Jesus talk sey: “The Kingdom wey dey heaven be like one man wey plant better seed for im farm. When people dey sleep, im enemy come plant grass join the wheat, come comot. When the wheat grow and come start to dey bring fruit, the grass start to grow too.” Many people no believe sey this kind thing fit happen, but wetin dey Roman law show sey e fit happen.

One Bible dictionary talk sey: “To go plant grass for another person farm because e do you bad, na bad thing for Roman law. For dem to put law about this matter show sey e dey happen.” Alastair Kerr wey know law matter well well talk sey for 533 C.E., one Roman Emperor wey im name na Justinian write one book wey dem dey call Digest. The book talk about Roman law and some part of wetin the people wey know law talk (about 100-250 C.E.). According to wetin e write (Digest, 9.2.27.14), Ulpian wey know law well well talk about one case for the time of one Roman politician wey im name na Celsus. Person go plant grass for another person farm, the grass come spoil wetin dem plant for the farm. The book still talk wetin the farmer fit do, so that dem go fit pay am back for the bad thing wey dem do am.

For this kind bad thing to dey happen for the area wey Rome dey control that time, e show sey wetin Jesus talk for that story dey happen for real life.

Bible Reading

(Matthew 12:1-21) That time, Jesus come dey pass inside wheat farm for Sabbath day. Im disciples come dey hungry, dem come start to pluck wheat chop. 2 When Pharisee people see dem, dem come tell am sey: “See! Your disciples dey do wetin the Law forbid for Sabbath day.” 3 E ask dem sey: “Una never read wetin David do when im and the men wey dey with am dey hungry? 4 How e enter God house with the people wey dey with am, come chop the bread wey dem want give God wey be only for the priest, wey the Law sey make other people no chop? 5 Or, una never read am for the Law sey, on Sabbath day the priests wey dey temple dey break Sabbath Law, and no be bad thing? 6 But I dey tell una sey something wey pass the temple dey here. 7 But if to sey una understand wetin e mean, sey: ‘I want mercy no be sacrifice,’ una for no dey condemn people wey no do bad. 8 Because na the Son of man be the Lord of the Sabbath.” 9 After e comot for there, e come go their synagogue, 10 and see! One man wey im hand paralyze dey there. To see wetin dem want take hold am, dem ask am sey: “The Law support to cure person for Sabbath day? 11 E ask dem sey: “If you get one sheep, and the sheep come fall inside hole on Sabbath day, e get any of una wey no go bring am come out? 12 As e be sey human being get value well well pass sheep, so the Law support to do wetin good for Sabbath day. 13 Na im e tell the man sey: “Stretch your hand.” E come stretch am, the hand come good like the other hand. 14 But the Pharisee people comot for there, come go plan how to kill am 15 As Jesus know this one, na im e comot from there. Many people still follow am, and e heal all of dem, 16 But e give dem serious warning sey make dem no let people know who e be, 17 so that wetin prophet Isaiah talk go happen, when e sey: 18 “See! This na my servant wey I don choose, I love am, and my heart agree with am! I go give am my spirit, and e go make the whole world know wetin justice really mean. 19 E no go quarrel, or shout, and people no go hear im voice for street. 20 Any grass wey don bend, e no go break am comot, and e no go quench any lamp thread wey want off, until e make justice win. 21 True true, the whole world go put hope for im name.”

“Jesus Use Im Small Group of Disciple Give Plenty People Food”

(Matthew 14:16, 17) But Jesus tell dem sey: “Dem no need to go, make una give dem wetin dem go chop.” 17 Dem come tell am sey: “We no get anything for here, na only this five bread and two fish.”

w13 7/15 15 ¶2

Jesus Use Im Small Group of Disciple Give Plenty People Food

2 As Jesus see the plenty people, e come dey pity for dem. E heal all the sick people wey dey there, e still teach dem many things about God Kingdom. When evening reach, im disciples come tell am sey make e let the people go, so that dem fit go buy food for the village wey dey near there. But Jesus tell im disciples sey: “Make una give dem wetin dem go chop.” Wetin Jesus tell im disciples fit surprise dem well well, because the only food wey dem get na five bread and two small fish.

(Matthew 14:18, 19) E tell dem sey: “Make una bring am come.” 19 Na im e tell the plenty people sey make dem sitdown for the grass. E collect the five bread and two fish, e face heaven, pray, come divide the bread and share am give im disciples, the disciples come share am give the people.

w13 7/15 15 ¶3

Jesus Use Im Small Group of Disciple Give Plenty People Food

3 Jesus pity for the people sotey e come do one miracle. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John talk about this miracle for inside the Bible book wey dem write. (Mark 6:35-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-13) Jesus send im disciples make dem tell the people to arrange theirself 50, 50, and 100, 100, and make dem sitdown ontop grass. After e pray, e come divide the bread and fish. But Jesus no give am to the people by imself, e give am to im disciples, dem come share am to the people. The miracle wey Jesus do make the food plenty sotey dem no fit chop am finish! Just think am: Jesus use im small group of disciple give the plenty people food.

(Matthew 14:20, 21) All of dem come chop belleful and dem gather 12 full basket of wetin dem chop remain. 21 The people wey chop na about 5,000 men, plus women and children.

nwtsty study note for Mt 14:21

plus women and children: For this miracle, na only Matthew talk about the women and children. E fit be sey the people wey gain from this miracle pass 15,000 people.

w13 7/15 15 ¶1

Jesus Use Im Small Group of Disciple Give Plenty People Food

JUST think am sey you dey there. (Read Matthew 14:14-21.) Before the Passover for 32 C.E., about 5,000 men gather with women and children. Bible no talk how many women and children gather. All of dem dey with Jesus and im disciples for one desert area for Bethsaida. Bethsaida na one village wey dey the north side of the Sea of Galilee.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Matthew 15:7-9) Una wey be pretender, wetin Isaiah talk about una na true when e sey: 8 ‘This people dey honor me with their mouth, but their heart dey far from me. 9 Dem dey worship me for nothing, because dem dey teach human being command as their belief.’”

nwtsty study note for Mt 15:7

pretenders: The Greek word hy·po·kri·tesʹ na the word wey dem take dey describe Greek and Rome people wey dey act drama that time. Dem dey wear big mask wey dey make their voice loud. Later, dem start to use this word describe person wey dey hide who e really be, person wey im way no straight, and wey dey pretend. For here, Jesus call the Pharisee and Sadducee people “pretenders.”—Mt 6:5, 16.

(Matthew 15:26) E answer am sey: “E no good to collect the bread wey children suppose chop throw am give small dog.”

nwtsty study note for Mt 15:26

children . . . small dog: For the law wey Jehovah give Moses, dog no be clean animal. Many times wey Bible use the word dog, e no dey mean better thing. (Le 11:27; Mt 7:6; Php 3:2; Re 22:15) But from wetin Mark (Mark 7:27) and Matthew write, as Jesus use the word “small dog” or “house dog,” e make am no carry that bad meaning. E fit be sey the way Jesus talk am, na the way people wey no be Jew dey call animal wey dem dey keep for house. As Jesus describe Jew people as “children,” and people wey no be Jew as “small dog,” e dey show the people wey suppose come first. If person get children and dog for house, na im children go first chop before the dog.

Bible Reading

(Matthew 15:1-20) Na im scribe and Pharisee people come meet Jesus from Jerusalem, dem ask am sey: 2 “Why your disciples no dey follow the tradition of olden days people? For example, dem no dey wash hand when dem want chop.” 3 E come answer dem sey: “Why una no dey follow God commandment because of una tradition? 4 For example, God sey: ‘Honor your papa and your mama,’ and, anybody wey dey talk to im papa and mama anyhow must die.’ 5 But una sey, ‘Anybody wey tell im papa or mama sey: “Anything wey I get wey you fit gain from na gift wey I don give God,” 6 that means, e no need to honor im papa at all.’ So una don make God commandment no get value again because of una tradition. 7 Una wey be pretender, wetin Isaiah talk about una na true when e sey: 8 ‘This people dey honor me with their mouth, but their heart dey far from me. 9 Dem dey worship me for nothing, because dem dey teach human being command as their belief.’” 10 Na im e call the plenty people near imself, come tell dem sey: “Listen and understand sey: 11 No be wetin enter person mouth dey spoil am, but na wetin come out from im mouth dey spoil am.” 12 Im disciples meet am, come ask am sey: “You know sey Pharisee people dey vex because of wetin you talk?” 13 E come answer dem sey: “Any plant wey my Father for heaven no plant, dem go uproot am. 14 Leave dem. Na blind leaders dem be. And if blind man dey lead blind man, the two of dem go fall inside pit.” 15 Peter come talk sey: “Explain wetin you mean to us.” 16 Na im e ask dem sey: “Even una never still understand?” 17 Una no know sey anything wey enter mouth dey pass belle, and e go come out enter toilet? 18 But anything wey come out from person mouth na from the heart and na im dey spoil person 19 For example, na from the heart wicked thinking dey come from. To kill person, to commit adultery, sex wey no clean for God eye, to thief, to talk wetin person eye no see, and to spoil God name. 20 Na all this things dey spoil person; but to chop with hand wey dem no wash no dey spoil person.”

BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | MATTHEW 16-17

“Na Wetin God Want You Dey Always Think About?”

(Matthew 16:21, 22) From that time, Jesus come start to explain to im disciples sey e must go Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests and scribes. Dem go kill am, and for the third day, e go get up. 22 Na im Peter come carry am go one side, come begin tell am sey: “Lord, pity for yourself; this thing no go happen to you at all.”

w07 2/15 16 ¶17

Husband, Make una No Forget Sey Una Dey Under Jesus

17 Another time, Jesus explain to im disciples sey e must go Jerusalem, and e must suffer many things from the elders, chief priests and scribes. Dem go kill am, and for the third day, e go get up. Na im Peter come carry am go one side, come begin tell am sey: “Lord, pity for yourself; this thing no go happen to you at all.” E clear sey Peter don allow how e dey feel affect how e dey think. So Jesus need to correct am, na im make Jesus tell am sey: “Comot from my front, Satan! You be stone wey want make me fall, because your thinking na human being own no be God own.”—Matthew 16:21-23.

(Matthew 16:23) But e turn, come tell Peter sey: “Comot from my front, Satan! You be stone wey want make me fall, because your thinking na human being own no be God own.”

w15 5/15 13 ¶16-17

Sofri So That Satan No Go Catch You!

16 Satan fit still deceive person wey dey serve Jehovah well. For example, think about wetin happen when Jesus tell im disciples sey im enemy dem go soon kill am. Because of the good mind wey Peter get, e carry Jesus go one side come tell am sey: “Lord, pity for yourself; this thing no go happen to you at all.” Jesus answer Peter straight sey: “Comot from my front, Satan!” (Matt. 16:22, 23) Why Jesus call Peter “Satan”? Na because Jesus know wetin want happen. The time don come when Jesus go use im live do sacrifice and show sey Satan na liar. This time for Jesus life no be time to dey “pity” for imself as the matter concern all human being. Wetin Satan want na make Jesus relax and take things easy with imself.

17 As we dey near the end of this Satan world, life go still hard for us well well. Satan want make we “pity” ourself come relax as we dey serve Jehovah. E want make we dey pursue the things wey dey this world, so that we go forget sey na small time remain. Abeg, no let that kind thing happen to you! But make you “continue to dey watch.” (Matt. 24:42) No let Satan deceive you sey the end still far or sey e no go come at all.

(Matthew 16:24) Then, Jesus come tell im disciples sey: “If anybody want to dey follow me, make e disown imself, carry im pole of suffer, and continue to dey follow me.

w06 4/1 23 ¶9

‘Go Make People My Disciples, and Baptize Dem’

9 Wetin we go do to copy how Jesus take do wetin God want? Jesus tell im disciples sey: “If anybody want to dey follow me, make e disown imself, carry im pole of suffer, and continue to dey follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) For this verse, Jesus talk about three things wey we must do. (1) We go “disown” ourself. This one mean sey to do wetin God want and to obey am, go be the first thing for our life. (2) We must ‘carry our pole of suffer.’ For Jesus time, pole of suffer mean shame and suffer head. As Christians, we must ready to suffer because of the good news. (2 Timothy 1:8) Even though sey people for this world fit laugh us, we no dey “mind the shame.” But like Jesus, we dey happy because we know sey we dey make Jehovah happy. (Hebrews 12:2) And (3) we must “continue” to follow Jesus.—Psalm 73:26; 119:44; 145:2.

Better Things Wey Dey Inside Bible—Find Am Well

(Matthew 16:18) I still dey tell you sey: You be Peter, and na ontop this rock I go build my congregation. The gates of the Grave no go get power over am.

nwtsty study note for Mt 16:18

You be Peter, and na ontop this rock: The Greek word peʹtros mean “rock or stone.” And na this name (Peter) Jesus give Simon. (Joh 1:42) Another Greek word wey resemble this one na peʹtra, e mean “big rock or edge of rock.” For Bible, this word dey Mt 7:24, 25; 27:60; Lu 6:48; 8:6; Ro 9:33; 1Co 10:4, and 1Pe 2:8. Peter write for 1Pe 2:4-8 sey e don tey wey dem talk sey na Jesus be the “foundation cornerstone” wey God choose by imself. This one show sey Peter no see imself as the rock wey Jesus go build im congregation ontop. Another one be sey, apostle Paul talk sey Jesus na the “foundation,” and “the big rock wey God give.” (1Co 3:11; 10:4) So, wetin Jesus dey tell Peter be sey: ‘You wey I call Peter, your name mean rock. You don come know who “this rock” be. And you don come know sey na im be the Christ, the person wey go be the foundation of the Christian congregation.

congregation: This na the first time wey dem use the Greek word ek·kle·siʹa. Na two Greek word dem take form this word. The first one na ek, wey mean “out,” and the second one na ka·leʹo, wey mean “to call.” This word describe group of people wey dem call together to do something. (Check Glossary.) For here, Jesus dey talk about when dem go form the Christian congregation. Na dem be the group of Christian wey God choose with im holy spirit. Bible call dem “living stone wey dem dey build to become God house.” (1Pe 2:4, 5) Many times dem use this Greek word for the Septuagint. And e get the same meaning with the Hebrew word wey dem translate as “congregation.” For many place wey dem use this word for Bible, e dey talk about the whole Israel wey be God people. (De 23:3; 31:30) Ac 7:38 call Israel people wey God bring come out from Egypt, “congregation.” Na the same thing with the Christians wey dem “call . . . comot from darkness,” and wey dem “choose . . . comot from this world.” Dem be “God congregation.”—1Pe 2:9; Joh 15:19; 1Co 1:2.

(Matthew 16:19) I go give you the keys of the Kingdom wey dey heaven, and anything wey you lock for this earth go don already lock for heaven, and anything wey you open for this earth, go don already open for heaven.”

nwtsty study note for Mt 16:19

keys of the Kingdom wey dey heaven: For Bible, when dem give person key, whether na ordinary key or no be ordinary key, e mean sey dem don give am authority. (1Ch 9:26, 27; Isa 22:20-22) So, “key” stand for authority and work. Peter use the keys wey Jesus give am take open road for Jew people (Ac 2:22-41), Samaria people (Ac 8:14-17), and People wey no be Jew. (Ac 10:34-38) Dem come get the favor to get holy spirit so that dem go join people wey go rule with Jesus for heaven.

Bible Reading

(Matthew 16:1-20) The Pharisee and Sadducee people come meet am to test am. Dem come tell am sey make e show dem sign from heaven. 2 E answer dem sey: “For evening time, una dey sey ‘weather go good, because the sky red like fire,’ 3 and for morning, una go sey, ‘weather go cold and rain go fall today, because the sky red like fire but e dark.’ Una sabi use the sky explain how weather go be, but una no sabi explain wetin the signs of this time mean. 4 Wicked generation wey no dey fear God dey look for sign, but una no go see any sign except Jonah sign.” Na im e waka leave dem for there. 5 The disciples come cross go the other side, but dem forget to carry bread. 6 Jesus tell dem sey: “Make una open una eye and sofri because of the yeast of Pharisee and Sadducee people.” 7 So dem come begin tell each other sey: “We no carry any bread come.” 8 As e know this one, Jesus come sey: “Una wey get small faith, why una dey tell unaself sey una no get any bread?” 9 Una never still understand, or una no remember the five bread wey the 5,000 people chop, and how many basket come remain? 10 Or the seven bread wey 4,000 people chop, and how many big basket wey come remain? 11 Why una no come understand sey no be bread I dey talk about? But sofri because of the yeast of the Pharisee and Sadducee people.” 12 Dem come understand sey e no dey talk sey make dem sofri because of the yeast for bread, but because of the things wey the Pharisee and Sadducee people dey teach. 13 When Jesus enter Caes·a·reʹa Phi·lipʹpi area, e ask im disciples sey: “Who people dey talk sey the Son of man be?” 14 Dem talk sey: “Some people dey sey John the Baptist, others dey sey Elijah, and others still dey sey Jeremiah or one of the prophet.” 15 E come ask dem sey: “What of una, who una think sey I be?” 16 Simon Peter answer sey: “You be the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus come tell am sey: “You go dey happy, Simon Jo′nah pikin, because no be flesh and blood make you know this one, but na my Father wey dey heaven. 18 I still dey tell you sey: You be Peter, and na ontop this rock I go build my congregation. The gates of the Grave no go get power over am. 19 I go give you the keys of the Kingdom wey dey heaven, and anything wey you lock for this earth, go don already lock for heaven, and anything wey you open for this earth, go don already open for heaven.” 20 E come give dem serious warning sey make dem no tell anybody sey na im be the Christ.

BETTER THINGS WEY DEY INSIDE BIBLE | MATTHEW 18-19

“Sofri So That You No Go Make Yourself and Other People Fall”

(Matthew 18:6, 7) But, anybody wey make one of this small children wey believe me fall, e go better make dem tie millstone wey donkey dey turn, round im neck and throw am inside sea make e sink. 7 “E no go better for the world because of the stones wey dey make person fall! Na true sey stones wey dey make person fall must come, but e no go better for the person wey go bring the stones wey dey make person fall!

nwtsty study note for Mt 18:6, 7

millstone wey donkey dey turn: Or “big millstone.” Lit., “donkey millstone.” This kind millstone dey wide reach 1.2-1.5 m (4-5 ft). Na donkey dem take dey turn the milestone because e heavy well well.

stones wey dey make person fall!: The Greek word skanʹda·lon mean “stones wey dey make person fall.” And dem see am as trap. Some people sey na the place for trap wey dem dey put food to catch animal. So, e mean anything wey fit make person fall. Anything wey person do to deceive another person, or anything wey happen wey make person sin. For Mt 18:8, 9, dem use this word skan·da·liʹzo, and dem translate am as “to make person fall.” E fit still mean “to become trap for person or to make am sin.”

Millstone

For Bible time, na millstone dem take dey grind things like corn. Dem still dey use am press oil come out from olive seed. Na two type of milestone dey, small one and big one. Na hand dem take dey turn the small one, and na animal dey turn the big one. E fit be sey na this kind big millstone Philistia people force Samson to dey turn for dem. (Jg 16:21) No be only for Israel dem dey use animal turn millstone, Rome people still dey use am that time.

Millstone Wey Dey Ground and the One Wey Dey Ontop

This millstone wey dey this picture na the type wey animal like donkey dey turn. Dem dey use am grind things like corn, and dem fit still use am press oil come out from olive seed. One big one go dey down, dem go stand the small one ontop the big one and na animal go dey turn am round ontop the big one. The small one dey wide reach 1.5 m (5 ft).

(Matthew 18:8, 9) So if your hand or your leg dey make you fall, cut am comot and trowey am. Because e better make you get life without hand or leg than for dem to throw you inside everlasting fire with your two hand and leg. 9 Again, if your eye dey make you fall, pluck am comot and trowey am because e go better make you get life with one eye than for dem to throw you for Ge·henʹna with your two eye.

nwtsty study note for Mt 18:9

Gehenna: This word come from the Hebrew word geh hin·nomʹ wey mean “valley of Hinnom.” For olden days, this place dey between the west and south side of Jerusalem. (Check App. B12, map “Jerusalem and Surrounding Area.”) For Jesus time, the place don turn to where dem dey burn dirty. So “Gehenna” na the correct word to take describe complete destruction.

nwtstg Glossary

77 times: Lit., “seventy times seven.” This Greek word fit still mean “70 and 7” (77 times) or “70 times 7” (490 times). For inside the Septuagint, this same word dey Ge 4:24, and e mean “77 times” for Hebrew language. This one make am clear sey “77 times” correct. E no matter how person take understand am. As Jesus repeat the seven two times, e show sey to forgive no suppose get end. When Jesus turn the 7 wey Peter talk to 77, e use am tell im disciples sey make dem no count how many times wey dem go forgive person. But Babylonian Talmud (Yoma 86b) talk sey: “If person do bad first time, second time and third time, make you forgive am. But if e do bad the fourth time no forgive am.”

Bible Reading

(Matthew 18:18-35) True true, I dey tell una sey anything wey una tie for this earth go be things wey dem don already tie for heaven, and anything wey una loose for this earth go be things wey dem don already loose for heaven. 19 True true I dey tell una again sey, if two of una agree about any important thing wey una want make e happen, e go happen because of my Father wey dey heaven. 20 Because, where two or three people gather because of my name, I dey with dem.” 21 Na im Peter come meet am, ask am sey: “Lord, how many times my brother go do me wetin bad wey I go forgive am? E go reach seven times?” 22 Jesus come tell am sey: “I dey tell you, no be just seven times, but e go reach 77 times.” 23 Na im make the Kingdom wey dey heaven be like one king wey want calculate im money wey dey with im slaves. 24 When e start to calculate, dem bring one man to am wey dey owe am 10,000 talents. 25 But because e no get wetin e go take pay, im oga come talk sey make dem sell the man, im wife, im children, and all the things wey e get, and use the money pay. 26 Na im the slave come fall for ground, come bow down for am, dey beg am sey: ‘Still give me time and I go pay everything wey I owe you.’ 27 The oga of the slave come pity am, e cancel all the things wey e dey own am, come let am go. 28 But when the slave comot from there, e come see another slave wey dey owe am 100 de·nar′i·i. E hold am, come begin press im neck and tell am sey: ‘Pay me everything wey you dey owe me.’ 29 Na im the other slave come fall for ground, begin beg am sey, ‘Still give me time and I go pay you back.’ 30 But e no gree, e come put am for prison until e fit pay wetin e dey owe. 31 When other slaves see wetin happen, e pain dem well well, na im dem come go report all the things wey happen to their oga. 32 Im oga send dem make dem call am come. E tell am sey: ‘Wicked slave, when you beg me, I cancel all the things wey you owe me. 33 You no suppose pity for your fellow slave the way I pity for you?’ 34 Im oga come vex well well, e come carry am give prison guards, until e fit pay all the things wey e owe. 35 Na so my Father for heaven go take deal with una if una no forgive una brother from una heart.”
