The Second of Peter

1 Σίμων Simon Πέτρος Peter δοῦλος slave καὶ and ἀπόστολος apostle Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ τοῖς to the (ones) ἰσότιμον equally precious ἡμῖν to us λαχοῦσιν having obtained (by lot) πίστιν faith ἐν in δικαιοσύνῃ righteousness τοῦ of the θεοῦ God ἡμῶν of us καὶ and σωτῆρος of Savior Ἰησοῦ Jesus Χριστοῦ· Christ;

2 χάρις undeserved kindness ὑμῖν to YOU καὶ and εἰρήνη peace πληθυνθείη may (it) be multiplied ἐν in ἐπιγνώσει accurate knowledge τοῦ of the θεοῦ God καὶ and Ἰησοῦ of Jesus τοῦ the κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν, of us, 3 ὡς as πάντα all (things) ἡμῖν to us τῆς of the θείας divine δυνάμεως power αὐτοῦ of him τὰ the (things) πρὸς toward ζωὴν life καὶ and εὐσέβειαν revering well δεδωρημένης having granted freely for self διὰ through τῆς the ἐπιγνώσεως accurate knowledge τοῦ of the (one) καλέσαντος having called ἡμᾶς us διὰ through δόξης glory καὶ and ἀρετῆς, virtue, 4 δι’ through ὧν which (things) τὰ the τίμια precious καὶ and μέγιστα grandest ἡμῖν to us ἐπαγγέλματα promises δεδώρηται, he has granted freely, ἵνα in order that διὰ through τούτων these (things) γένησθε YOU might become θείας of divine κοινωνοὶ sharers φύσεως, of nature, ἀποφυγόντες having fled off τῆς of the ἐν in τῷ the κόσμῳ world ἐν in ἐπιθυμίᾳ desire φθορᾶς. of corruption.

5 καὶ And αὐτὸ very τοῦτο this (thing) δὲ but σπουδὴν speedup πᾶσαν all παρεισενέγκαντες having brought in beside ἐπιχορηγήσατε supply YOU upon ἐν in τῇ to the πίστει faith ὑμῶν of YOU τὴν the ἀρετήν, virtue, ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the ἀρετῇ virtue τὴν the γνῶσιν, knowledge, 6 ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the γνώσει knowledge τὴν the ἐγκράτειαν, self-control, ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the ἐγκρατείᾳ self-control τὴν the ὑπομονήν, endurance, ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the ὑπομονῇ endurance τὴν the εὐσέβειαν, well-reverencing, 7 ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the εὐσεβείᾳ well-reverencing τὴν the φιλαδελφίαν, brotherly affection, ἐν in δὲ but τῇ the φιλαδελφίᾳ brotherly affection τὴν the ἀγάπην· love; 8 ταῦτα these (things) γὰρ for ὑμῖν to YOU ὑπάρχοντα existing καὶ and πλεονάζοντα becoming more οὐκ not ἀργοὺς ineffective οὐδὲ nor ἀκάρπους unfruitful καθίστησιν it is putting down εἰς into τὴν the τοῦ of the κυρίου Lord ἡμῶν of us Ἰησοῦ of Jesus Χριστοῦ Christ ἐπίγνωσιν· accurate knowledge;
