CHAPTER 48

E Do Many Miracle, But Im Town People Reject Am

MATTHEW 9:27-34; 13:54-58 MARK 6:1-6

  • JESUS HEAL PEOPLE WEY BLIND AND PEOPLE WEY NO FIT TALK

  • NAZARETH PEOPLE REJECT AM

Jesus don do many things for this day. After e use boat comot from Decapolis area, e come heal the woman wey blood dey flow from im body, and e still resurrect Jairus pikin. But e still do other things. After Jesus comot for Jairus house, two blind men come dey shout follow am sey: “Son of David, pity us!”—Matthew 9:27.

As the men call Jesus “Son of David,” e show sey dem believe sey Jesus na the person wey go be King for David throne. Na im go still be the Messiah. Jesus do like sey e no hear dem, maybe na because e want know whether the men really serious. When Jesus enter one house, the two men follow am. Jesus come ask dem sey: “Una get faith sey I go fit do am?” And dem answer with all their mind sey: “Lord, yes.” So Jesus come touch their eyes, and sey: “Because una get faith, una eye go open.”—Matthew 9:28, 29.

At once, the men start to see! Jesus tell dem the same thing wey e don tell other people. E sey make dem no tell people wetin e do for dem. But because of the joy wey full their heart, dem later spread the news for everywhere.

As the two men dey go, people carry one man come meet Jesus. The man no fit dey talk because of the demon wey dey im body. When Jesus drive the demon comot from the man body, the man start to talk. This thing surprise people, dem come dey sey: ‘We never see this kind thing for Israel before.’ Even the Pharisees wey see the miracles no fit deny am. So dem come dey repeat wetin dem talk before about Jesus power. Dem sey: “Na the power of king of the demons e take dey drive demons.”—Matthew 9:33, 34.

E no tey, Jesus come go back to Nazareth wey be im hometown, and im disciples follow am. About one year before this time, Jesus teach for the synagogue wey dey there. Wetin Jesus talk first dey sweet the people. But later, dem vex because of wetin e dey teach and dem try to kill am. But Jesus still want try to help this im town people.

Jesus enter their synagogue for Sabbath day. Many people dey wonder, and even dey ask: “Where this man get this better sense, and the power to do miracles? No be carpenter pikin be this? No be im mama be Mary, and im brothers be James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? And no be im sisters dey here with us? So where e come get power to do all this things?”—Matthew 13:54-56.

The people feel sey Jesus na just one local man. Dem fit dey think sey, ‘We no see am as e dey grow for here? How e come take be Messiah?’ Because of this one, dem reject Jesus even with all the better things wey e teach, and the miracles wey e do. Even Jesus family people wey know am well well, no gree believe am. Na im make Jesus talk sey na only for im own area dem no dey respect prophet.—Matthew 13:57.

True true, Jesus surprise sey this people no get faith. “So e no come do any miracle for there apart from to cure some sick people.”—Mark 6:5, 6.

  • As the blind men call Jesus David Son, wetin e show sey dem believe?

  • Wetin the Pharisees talk again about the miracles wey Jesus dey do?

  • Dem gree welcome Jesus for Nazareth, and why e be like that?
