The First Book of Samuel
11 Then Na′hash wey be Am′mon person come with im soldiers to come fight against Ja′besh people for Gil′e·ad. All the men of Ja′besh come tell Na′hash say: “Make agreement with us, and we go serve you.” 2 Na′hash wey be Am′mon person come tell them say: “The only thing wey go make me get agreement with una, na if I pluck all una right eyes comot. I go do this one to disgrace all Israel.” 3 Then the elders for Ja′besh answer-am say: “Give us seven days so that we go fit send messengers go all the lands for Israel. If we no see person wey go save us, then we go surrender to you.” 4 After some time, the messengers come reach Gib′e·ah, wey be the city wey Saul de stay, and tell the people this things. All the people come start to cry, de shout.
5 But that time, Saul de come with the animals from farm, and e ask say: “Wetin happen to the people? Why them de cry?” Them come tell-am the things wey the men of Ja′besh talk. 6 When Saul hear the things wey them talk, the spirit of God come give-am power, and e vex no be small. 7 So e carry two bulls and cut them to pieces, e come give them to the messengers make them carry them go all the lands for Israel and talk say: “Na like this them go do the cows of anybody wey no gree follow Saul and Samuel!” The people come fear Jehovah, so them come out with one mind.* 8 Then e count them for Be′zek, and na 300,000 Israel people and 30,000 men of Judah them be. 9 Then them tell the messengers wey come say: “Make una tell the men of Ja′besh for Gil′e·ad say, ‘Tomorrow, when the sun don come out well-well, we go save una.’” So the messengers come tell the men of Ja′besh and them happy no be small. 10 The men of Ja′besh come tell Am′mon people say: “Tomorrow we go surrender to una, make una do us anything wey una like.”
11 The next day, Saul divide the people into three groups, them come sofri enter the middle of the camp of Am′mon people for early morning.* Them kill Am′mon people until sun come out well-well. The people wey survive come scatter, sotey you no fit see two Am′mon people wey dey together. 12 Then the people tell Samuel say: “Which people be de talk say, ‘Na Saul want be our king?’ Make una bring the men come make we kill them.” 13 But Saul talk say: “Them no go kill anybody today, because Jehovah don save Israel today.”
14 Later, Samuel tell the people say: “Make una come, make we go Gil′gal go announce-am again say na Saul be king.” 15 So all the people go Gil′gal, and for there, them make Saul king for Jehovah front. Them come do peace sacrifice them for Jehovah front. Saul and all Israel people celebrate and them happy no be small.
