SONG 138 Old People Wey Jehovah Love
You Fit Continue to Dey Happy Even When You Don Old
“ For old age them go . . . de do well.”—PS. 92:14.
WETIN WE GO LEARN?
For this article, we go talk about why e dey important for old people to continue to dey happy and how them fit do this one.
1-2. How our Papa for heaven de see im faithful worshippers wey don old? (Psalm 92:12-14; still check the picture.)
PEOPLE de behave for different ways when them see say them don de old. For example, you remember how you feel when you see the first white hair for your head? E fit be say you try to remove-am before anybody see-am. But you come see say if you remove-am, that one no go stop new one make e no grow. This example de show say many people no like old age.
2 But how our Papa for heaven de see im faithful worshippers wey don old? (Prov. 16:31) E compare them to fine-fine trees. (Read Psalm 92:12-14.) Wetin this one mean? Trees wey don old de fine well-well because them de get plenty leaf and fine-fine flowers. For example, e get one type of tree wey de grow for Japan and other part of the world. The tree really fine because e de get plenty flower and e de live for many years. Some of this tree don live pass one thousand years and them really fine. Just like this trees wey fine well-well even though say them don old, na so Jehovah faithful servants wey don old still fine for Im eye and E really value them. Jehovah value them because of their better-better character, because them don serve-am for plenty years, and because them continue to serve-am well for good time and bad time.
Tree de fine well-well as e de old. For the same way, old people de get better-better character wey de make Jehovah and other people value them. (Check paragraph 2)
3. Give example of how Jehovah don use old people to do wetin e get for mind.
3 Just because person don old no mean say e no get value for Jehovah eye.a The truth be say, plenty times, Jehovah de use old people to do wetin e get for mind. For example, Sarah don old when Jehovah talk say e go get pikin, and say im children go become big nation and the Messiah go come from-am. (Gen. 17:15-19) Moses na another example, e don old when Jehovah send-am to free Israel people from Egypt. (Ex. 7:6, 7) Apostle John self don old when Jehovah use-am write five books for Bible.
4. With wetin dey Proverbs 15:15, wetin fit help old people endure the problems wey them de face? (Still check the picture.)
4 As we de old, we de get plenty problems. One old sister talk say, “Old age no be for person wey de fear-fear because old age no easy.” But Jehovah fit help you continue to get joyb so that you go enjoy life even though say you de face plenty problems. (Read Proverbs 15:15.) For this article, we go talk about wetin old people fit do to continue to dey happy. We go still talk about how brothers and sisters fit help old people for their congregation. But make we first talk about why e no easy to continue to dey happy as person de old more-more.
If you de see and de enjoy all the good things wey Jehovah de do for you, you fit continue to dey happy even when you de face problems because you don old (Check paragraph 4)
WHY E NO EASY TO CONTINUE TO DEY HAPPY AS PERSON DE OLD
5. Wetin fit make some old people dey sad?
5 If you be old person, wetin fit make you dey sad? You fit dey sad because you no fit do wetin you de do before. You fit de think about the time wey you still dey young and your body dey strong. (Eccl. 7:10) For example, one sister wey im name na Ruby talk say: “E de hard me to wear cloth because my body de pain me and I no de fit move my body as I de do before. Even to carry my leg up to wear socks de hard me. To do simple things with my hand de hard me because my fingers de really pain me because of arthritis.” One brother wey im name na Harold wey serve for Bethel talk say: “I de vex sometimes because I no fit do all the things wey I de like to do before. When I dey young, I really dey strong and I like to play baseball. When we de play, them go talk say, ‘Give Harold the ball because na im de fit help us win.’ But now, I no fit even throw ball again.”
6. (a) Which other thing fit make some old people dey sad? (b) Wetin fit help old person decide whether e go continue to drive or e go stop? (Check the article wey the topic na “Make I Stop to De Drive?” wey dey this magazine.)
6 E fit be say you no dey happy because you no fit do some things wey you de do by yourself before. You fit de feel like this especially when you need person to help you do things or if you pack go live with your pikin. Or e de really pain you say because your body no dey strong again and you no de see well, you no de fit waka or drive go different place by yourself. This kind thing fit really pain you. But remember say Jehovah and other people still value you even if only you no go fit de stay for house and de care for yourself, or even if you no go fit drive again, go farm again, or do other things by yourself. And we dey sure say Jehovah understand how you de feel. Wetin dey important to Jehovah na the kind person wey you be for inside. E know how you really love-am and say you love your brothers and sisters.—1 Sam. 16:7.
7. If you de feel sad because you de feel say you fit die before the end go come, wetin fit help you?
7 E fit be say you dey sad because you de feel say you fit die before Jehovah go destroy this Satan world. If na so you de feel, wetin fit help you? Remember say Jehovah get reason why e never destroy this Satan world. (Isa. 30:18) Wetin be the reason? E dey patient because e de give many people the chance to fit learn about-am and be im friend. (2 Pet. 3:9) So when you de feel sad, try think about the plenty people wey fit learn about Jehovah and worship-am before the end go come. And some of this people fit even be your family people.
8. When old person de sick or de feel pain, how this one fit affect-am?
8 Whether we dey young or we don old, when we de sick or de feel pain, we fit talk or do something wey we go regret later. (Eccl. 7:7; Jas. 3:2) For example, when Job de suffer, e “talk anyhow.” (Job 6:1-3) Another thing be say, because of sickness or the kind medicine wey old person de take, e fit talk or do something for way wey e no de do before. But even if you de sick or you don old, this one no go be reason for you to de talk anyhow or do things wey no dey kind to other people, or to de expect say people must do everything for you. And if you see say the way you talk to person no good, make you no waste time to tell the person say you dey sorry.—Matt. 5:23, 24.

9. Why e good make you allow other people to help you? (Still check the picture.)
9 Allow other people to help you. (Gal. 6:2) This one fit no easy for you. One sister wey im name na Gretl talk say: “Sometimes, e de hard me to allow make other people help me because I de feel say I de worry them. E take me time to fit agree say I need other people to help me.” When you allow make other people help you, this one de make them happy. But if we smile and tell them thank you, we de make them know say we value wetin them do for us. One sister wey im name na Leah wey de care for old brothers and sisters for Bethel talk say: “One of the sisters wey I de care for de always write small note for paper to thank me. E no de write plenty things, but e de really touch my heart. I de happy everytime wey I de read wetin e write. E de really sweet my belle to know say e value wetin I de do for-am.”

One proverb for Africa talk say, old people be like library wey get plenty books wey de teach people better sense. But if book just dey for library and nobody read-am, person no fit learn anything from-am. Na so e still be, if you no talk to young people and tell them wetin you know, them no go fit gain from you. You fit ask young people question and then listen to them as them de answer. You fit tell them how Jehovah don help you and help them see say if them obey Jehovah, them go dey happy. If you de encourage young people and comfort them, this one go de make you happy.—Ps. 71:18.
(Check paragraph 11)

Bible tell us say Jehovah “no de ever tire.” (Isa. 40:28) So Jehovah fit give you the power wey you need. (Isa. 40:29-31) In fact, e promise say e go help you. (Read Isaiah 46:4.) And Jehovah no go ever fail to do wetin e promise. (Josh. 23:14; Isa. 55:10, 11) If you pray to Jehovah, e go help you. And e go really make you happy as you de see say Jehovah really love you.

Bible promise us say for future, people no go old again and sickness no go dey again. (Job 33:25; Isa. 33:24) So you fit dey happy because you know say for future, you go dey young, your body go dey strong, and you go fine pass as you be before. (Read 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.) But wetin other people fit do to help?
(Check paragraph 13)
WETIN WE FIT DO TO HELP OLD PEOPLE FOR CONGREGATION
14. Why e dey important to visit and call old people?
14 De always visit and call old brothers and sisters. (Heb. 13:16) Sometimes, old people de feel sad because them dey alone. Brother Camille wey no de fit comot from im house talk say: “Sometimes, e de really pain me and e de vex me say I no fit comot from house and say I no fit do plenty things again. This one de make me feel bad.” When we visit old people, this one de make them know say we love them and we value them. E fit be say e get one time wey we plan to visit or call one old person but we no do-am because we really dey busy. But make we no forget say to visit old people na part of the “things wey dey important pass.” (Phil. 1:10) So wetin go help us fit do-am? You fit write the names of old people for your congregation and the day wey you go call them or send them message. You fit still arrange to visit them. Try to choose one particular day so that you no go forget.
15. Wetin be some things wey young people and old people fit do together?
15 If you be young person, you fit de ask yourself say, ‘wetin I fit talk when I dey with old people or which things I go fit do with them?’ But you no need to worry about that one, just be better friend. (Prov. 17:17) Try talk to old brothers and sisters before meeting start and after meeting end. You fit ask them to tell you the Bible verse wey them really like, or something wey them do when them dey young wey de make them laugh when them remember-am. You fit still invite them to come watch JW Broadcasting® with you. You fit still help them do some things wey them no fit do by theirself. For example, you fit help them to make sure say their phone or tablet de work well and help them download things wey just come out for JW Library or jw.org. One sister wey im name na Carol talk say: “Try to do things wey you de like to do with old people. Even though say I be old person, I still de like to enjoy myself. I de like to go market, go chop with my friends for restaurant, and go different-different place wey I fit see things wey Jehovah don make.” And one sister wey im name na Maira talk say: “One of my friend dey 90 years. I dey 33 years, so e old pass me with 57 years. But many times, I no de remember that one because we de laugh together and watch film together. And when we de face problem, we de ask each other for advice.”
16. Why e good make we follow old people when them want go see doctor?
16 You fit follow them when them want go see doctor. You fit carry them go hospital and stay with them to make sure say doctor or nurse treat them well. (Isa. 1:17) You fit help old people as you de put mind for wetin doctor de tell them so that you go fit help them remember-am later. One old sister wey im name na Ruth talk say: “Plenty times when only me go see doctor, them no de believe wetin I tell them. Them fit tell me say, ‘You just de think say you get problem, but you no really get any problem.’ But when another person follow me go hospital, the doctors de treat me well. I thank my brothers and sisters wey de use their time follow me go collect treatment.”
17. Which ways you fit preach with old brothers and sisters?
17 Preach with them. Some old brothers and sisters fit no get the power again to preach from house to house. So you fit arrange to preach with them. For example, you fit invite any old brother or sister make e come do cart witnessing with you. You fit even give-am chair so that e go fit sitdown as una de do the cart witnessing. Or you fit arrange make e join you when you de conduct Bible study, or you fit even invite the Bible student come the old brother or sister house so that una go do the study together. If e de hard old person to go preaching but e go dey easy for-am to preach if them do meeting for field service for im house, elders fit arrange to do meeting for field service for im house. Jehovah de really happy when e see say we de do our best to honor old people and show them love.—Prov. 3:27; Rom. 12:10.
18. Wetin we go talk about for the next article?
18 This article don remind us say Jehovah love and value old people. But no be only Jehovah value them, all of us for congregation still love and value them. Even though say e no easy for old people, Jehovah fit help them to continue to dey happy. (Ps. 37:25) If you be old person, you go continue to dey happy if you put mind for the better future wey dey for front. But what about some of us wey de care for our family member wey don old, or pikin or friend wey de sick? Wetin we fit do to continue to dey happy? We go answer this question for the next article.
